Children entered the meeting room of the Windsor Library by walking a plank, setting the tone for the Pirate theme of the third week of the Summer Reading Program.

The “Read to Me” group was first entertained by a short video of “Voyage to Book Island” starring Molly Manhart and Jonathan Becker, both members of the Stew-Stras High School Drama Club.

Next Jonathan Becker brought his character, Long John Silverware, to life and read the pirate stories Pirate Soup by Erica Farer and J.R. Sansevere and How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon.

Children also enjoyed asking Jonathan questions about his experiences making the video and as a pirate.

The group also used Captain Hook’s hooks to hook a prize out of the treasure chest.

Prizes were also given to all readers of at least an hour and a half over the past week. Those winners were: Kaylee Reynolds, Donovan Kitten, Wyatt Smith, Cohen Collins, Haylee Reynolds, Benjamin Kitten, Abraham Welton, Samuel Welton, Katlin Armes, Xavier Beck, Andrew Harris, Jodie Harris, nd Noah Boyer.

Winner of the weekly door prize was Donovan Kitten.

The “Readers” Program also began by walking the plank and watching the “Voyage to Book Island” video.

This group heard the pirate stories of How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon and Roger the Jolly Pirate by Brett Helquist. Students also enjoyed playing an online treasure hunt game, the Captain Hook game, and playing peg-leg three legged races.

Prizes were given to all participants who had read at least an hour and a half. Winner of the door prize was Kelsey Ward.

The Summer Reading Program will not meet next week in observation of July 4. The next program will be on the topic of “Oceans” and will be on Tuesday, July 11.
