(Red-letter portions of the New Testament)

John 8:31-32...John 17:17, "Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching...Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free...Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

There is a difference between knowledge and truth. Kids are getting ready to go back to school to gain knowledge, but will they get the truth? Jesus said his teaching is the truth. Jesus said God's Word is truth. But the public school system is restricted from teaching God's Word, the truth. The public school system is restricted from imparting Jesus' teaching, the truth that sets them free. It's ironic. All those kids are going to school to learn, but they can't learn the truth.

The one who is omniscient, all-knowing, can't have all of his knowledge taught at public schools. And, what partial knowledge is taught can't be attributed to him. He is the one who gives us the ability to retain knowledge in the first place. Kids can learn about what God created at school, but the knowledge has to be bent to keep God, the Creator, out of the conversation.

Kids learn knowledge without truth. Partial knowledge that leads to the wrong conclusion is the opposite of truth. Rather than being set free by the truth, the kids are kept bound by denial of even the most obvious truth.

Not only is there the truth that God created everything, but there is the truth of Jesus, who died to set people free, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. He is coming back for those who are prepared by the knowledge of his coming. Since that can't be taught from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, 176 attendance days a year, kids need to learn the knowledge of God, know the truth, and be set free outside of public school.

Parents are the most important teachers of God's truth and Jesus' teaching. God tells parents to teach their children his truth. Churches have Sunday School, youth groups, Bible studies, children's church, catechism, confirmation classes, Vacation Bible Schools, and other ways for group instruction of God's truth throughout the week. Instead of public school, there are religious schools and home schooling that our children can attend, where they are not restricted from learning all of God's knowledge and all of God's truth.

There are Bibles, Bible apps, and a host of online reading and Bible study programs. If we want our children to know the truth and be set free, if we want our children to be sanctified in the truth, we need to instruct them. We need to make arrangements for more instruction, beyond what partial knowledge can be taught in government schools.

God's Word is truth. Jesus teaching is truth, that sets all men free.
