Forty-two area young men and women recently received scholarships from the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System Guild during the Guild's annual scholarship reception. Those chosen are in or are entering various disciplines of the medical field.

Amanda Walk of Neoga was awarded the C.D. Swickard Financial Scholarship. She is a second-year medical student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford.

The total amount of scholarships awarded from the Guild this year was $28,000. Since 1979, the Guild has raised nearly $360,000 for scholarships. The Guild Scholarship Committee consists of chairperson Eloise Buffenemeyer, Mary Lou Gaskill, and Linda Reddick.

The following Shelby County area students were among the scholarship recipients:

Cowden: Nicole Yakey

Neoga: Hannah Anderson, Denise Fearday, Erica Hoelscher and Kevin Strohl

Shelbyville: Courtney Furr

Sigel: Jennifer Hoene.
