Central A&M FFA Attends
Sebastian Smith was a standout pole vaulter at Shelbyville High School through his junior year, then transferred to Sullivan and competed for the Sullivan-Okaw Valley track team. He vaulted from there to Millikin University.
His senior season at SOV Smith and the Redskin co-op were bumped up to 2A in IHSA track. Smith was still sectional runner-up at Springfield Lanphier, clearing 12 feet 7 inches and qualifying for State. He cleared 12 feet, 9 inches in the prelims to cap his prep career.
Smith started out at Millikin with a splash. As a freshman, he cleared the 8th highest mark in school history. He then bettered that the following week.
At the Monmouth College Midwest Invite Indoor meet (2017) Smith placed 9th in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.06 meters (13'-3.75"), 8th all-time. At the Illinois Wesleyan University Top Times Meet, Smith was 4th in the vault at 4.10 meters. The mark improved his 8th all-time best performance for the Big Blue.
He continued knocking on the door of 4 meters. At the EIU Friday night meet, he went 3.95 meters (12 feet, 11.5 inches). At the CCIW Indoor Championships, he beat 4 meters (4.02m), taking 12th.
He placed 6th at the first outdoor meet as a freshman, the Edmond meet at St. Jo College (3.73m). At University of Wisconsin-WhitewaterSmith was o nthe doorstep again. He went 3.90 meters (12 feet-9.5 inches). At the 2017 Outdoor CCIW Championships, Smith had his 4th best height, making 4 meters again, 4.00m (13-'1.5").
As a sophomore, the Millikin men's and women's track and field team opened the 2018 Indoor season competing in the Towson Tiger Invite held at the Armory Track in New York City, New York on January 13. Smith was 12th in the long jump, 17 feet, 7 inches.
The Millikin men's and women's track team turned in a strong performance at the Monmouth Midwest Indoor Invitational on January 20 of this year. Smith placed 2nd in the pole vault (3.65m). At Rose-Hulman, he was 7th in the Pole Vault at 3.75 meters (12 feet-3.5 inches).
In the outdoor season, Smith won the pole vault at the Big Blue Alumni Meet going 3.70m (12 feet-1.5 inches). Smith then finished 6th in the Pole Vault at the Illinois College True Blue Meet, going 3.90 meters (12 feet-9.5 inches).
