On August 30 at about 4:35 p.m. the police department investigated a traffic accident on the Neal Tire parking lot. A 1993 Ford Aerostar operated by Michael Stombaugh was backed into a parked 1998 Buick LeSabre. There were no injuries and it appears to have been less than $500 in damages.

On August 31 a battery investigation was commenced by the police department. A 22-year-old female reported being pinched and slapped by a 50-year-old Shelbyville man. The matter is still under investigation. However, it is anticipated that a request for an arrest warrant will be forwarded to the Shelby County State’s Attorney.

On Friday morning, September 1, the police department responded to a complaint of a gas drive-off at the Moto Station. A local man pumped $60 worth of fuel and left without paying for it. After several failed attempts to reach this individual, a warrant for his arrest is being requested.

On September 2 officers responded to a domestic trouble call in the 1000 block of South Wood Street shortly after midnight. It was alleged that a 53-year-old Shelbyville man choked his 44-year-old wife. After the officers completed their investigation, John E. Berta was arrested and transported to the detention center where he was held on a charge of domestic battery.

On September 3 at around 1:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the hospital on a battery complaint. It appeared that an 18-year-old Moweaqua man had been battered severely while at a Shelbyville residence. After an investigation, Frank T. Woodall of Shelbyville was charged with aggravated battery and transported to the detention center for booking.

On Sunday evening, September 3, the police department finalized an ongoing battery investigation. As a result of that work, shawn D. Carl of Shelbyville was issued a notice to appear in court on the charge of battery. This charge stemmed from an incident that occurred on the Moto Station lot on August 18 where it is alleged that Carl struck a 17-year-old male in the face with his fist.
