The Shelbyville Ram softball team (9-12) suffered a loss on Friday to Clinton, 4-2, a team that they had beaten earlier. They bounced back with a quality win on Monday, beating Teutopolis, 3-0.

The Teutopolis game was a pitcher’s duel, but Joselyn Lewis overwhelmed the Wooden Shoe batters.

Lewis threw a 2-hit shutout over 7 innings. She threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of the 26 batters she faced (.776%). She walked no one and struck out 18 of the 26 batters she faced. Brumleve gave up 8 hits, but also walked no one and struck out 9. She threw first pitch strikes to 14 of the 26 batters she faced (.645%).

Lead-off batter Alejandra McCarter led the Rams hitting, going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Five other Rams had solo hits. Only two Shoes had hits, Schumacher’s double and Mette’s single. An error and two dropped 3rd strikes were the only other base runners.

The game came down to the Ram breakout in the 5th inning all with two outs. Natalie Frederick, batting 9th, stroked a single with two dead. Ale McCarter slapped a single.

Allison Schuricht made it three 2-out hits in a row. With the bases loaded and two outs, Lewis launched a bases clearing double. Frederick and McCarter scored and as Lewis went to 2nd, Schuricht raced around from 1st to make it 3-0.

Shelby had a single base runner in each of the first 3 innings, but couldn’t get them home. Teutopolis was suddenly in need of runs. They already suffered 11 strikeouts in 5 innings. They had had 5 base runners stranded.

The first batter in the 6th popped up to Alexis Rohdemann at short. Lewis rang up the other two batters. The Rams batted in the 6th. They got a two out single from Mikayla Boehm, but she was left on.

T’town was down to 3 outs in the 7th. Lewis was in charge. She rang up up Schumacher, who had doubled once before. Lewis rang up Neibrugge on 4 pitches and then KO’d “a roll of the dice” pinch hitter for Heuerman on just 3 pitches for the win.

T’town got a 2-out single from Mette in the 1st, but Lewis threw a K. McCarter led off the Ram 1st with a single, but Brumleve KO’d three in a row. Schumacher doubled for T’town with one out in the 2nd, but lewis rang up the next two batters.

Rohdemann led off the Ram 2nd with a hit. She got to 3rd on a ground out and a passed ball, but KO and a pop-out left her on. T’town got a base runner on an error in the 3rd, again with two outs. Jaylin McCabe made a play 3rd to 1st to end that chance.

In the Ram 3rd, McCarter singled between two strikeouts. A ground out dammed that Shelby opportunity.

Lewis struck out 5 batters in the 4th. The second one, Deters, made it to 1st on a dropped 3rd strike. She stole 2nd and the very next batter was struck out, too, but got to 1st on another dropped 3rd strike. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Lewis rang up the next two batters to get out of the jam.

Shelby went in order in the 4th. Lewis KO’d two of the three batters in the Shoe 5th to set up the Ram rally.

Back on April 9, Shelbyville fell behind to Clinton, 5-1, but came charging back to win in a walk-off in extra-innings. They fell behind again on Friday, but had no comeback.

Lewis doubled in the 1st with two outs and was left on. Clinton scored in the 1st inning on a 1-out single, a stolen base and an error by the catcher, 1-0. McCarter singled in the Ram 3rd with two outs and was left on.

A single and a home run in the Clinton 3rd made it 3-0. Frederick reached on an error in the Shelby 5th and Mikayla Boehm singled. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, a line-out to short was sudden death.

Shelby scored in the 6th when Schuricht led off with a single, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a passed ball and Lewis walked. With the tying run at the plate, Kaytlin Tucker hit a fielder’s choice. Schuricht scored and Tichenor tried for home on the play, but was out, 3-1. With two outs, Bri Reed tripled Tucker home, 3-2.
