Beecher City Eagles advanced in the Pana Regional last night by topping Morrisonville 54-40. The Eagles played a consistent game with three players in double digits and shooting 7 of 8 from the foul line at 88 percent efficiency.

Deno Tull led the Eagles scoring offense with the game high of 15 points followed by Tyler McCay with 13 and Jesse Bales with 12.

But the Eagles lagged in the first period, as the Mohawks did a hatchet job, outscoring the Eagles 14-8. Deno Tull, Trenton Rexroad, Chris Gordon and Matt Koester all hit solo hoops for Beecher City in the first period.

The Eagles warmed up in the second as Tull came to life with a trey and double baskets and McCay and Rexroad repeated again with single floor shots. Bales hit two from the line and the Mohawks offense was held to only two points giving the Eagles the lead at half-time, 21-16.

Beecher City kept the pressure on in the third, adding another 16 points. Tyler McCay bombed the net for four two-pointers, Jared Laue hit for two and Bales added a hoop and two from the line. Rexroad also hit two at the stripe to put the Eagles up 37-28 going into the fourth period stretch.

Beecher City never looked back after the lag time in the first period and hit a game high 17 points in the fourth. High point man Tull came in with a trio of deuces and Bales added another four points on two jump shots.

Matt Koester hit his second basket of the game and McCay hit a two pointer and free shot. The Mohawks answered with 12 but the Eagles had held serve since the second period and didn’t give it back, wining the game 54-40.

Beecher City will next face #1 seed Neoga, Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Pana.
