The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcat volleyball team started winning a close first set and lost the 2nd, but beat back Patoka to get the win on Tuesday, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16.

Defense was huge in this match. CBHC got down for 68 digs. Patoka battled in the 2nd game, but the reason, they couldn’t get over the hump was the Bobcat defense.

Zaryah Smith was the star of the match and it all started with defense. Smith scooped a season-high 22 digs. She also struck for a team-high 6 kills and a team-high 4 aces. She led CHBC with 10 attack points. She led them in every phase of the game except assists.

Libero Jacque Witteborg scooped 17 digs. Smith and Witteborg had 57% of the team’s digs more than 7 other teammates combined.

Abby Sloan dished 13 of the 23 assists (9 digs). CHBC had 23 assists for the 28 kills (82%). Five of their kills were free balls or 1-timers. CHBC delivered 12 aces, a season high. With 3 blocks, CHBC recorded 43 attack points out of 69 total (62.3%).

Lauren Wojcik hit 5 kills, had a block and served 2 aces for 8 attack points. Tatyana Duckwitz had 3 kills, 3 aces and a block for 7 attack points, Kylee Bertin had 5 kills and 2 aces for 7 attack points. Carsen Burks had 4 kills and an ace for 5 attack points.

CHBC (10-11-1) heads to the NTC tourney on Friday.
