After a disappointing loss to Brownstown in overtime in the NTC Tourney semifinal, 55-53, the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls made sure they took 3rd place, beating St. Anthony, 67-42.
The Bobcats jumped on St. Anthony from the opening tip and out-paced them by double-digits, 21-11. CHBC vented again in the 2nd frame with a 17-11 run to post a 16-point edge at the break, 38-22.
St. Anthony was consistently held to 11 points for the 3rd time, while CHBC pumped in another 15. CHBC led by 20 points to start the 4th quarter, 53-33. If St. Anthony harbored any hopes of a comeback, they were dismantled by a CHBC, 14-9, finish and an 25-point margin removing all doubt.
CHBC leader Jaelyn Robertson was unrelenting, scoring 26 points on 10 buckets and a perfect 6-of-6 at the line. Reserve Madison Cherry came off the bench to also score in double figures. Cherry had 10 points, all from the field. The rest of the Bobcats had stair-step scoring.
Lani Morrison had 8 points from the floor, Gracie Heckert had 7 points on two deuces and the only CHBC 3. Carsen Burks and Mackenzie Bunch both had 6 points. Burks scored three times, while Bunch made 2-of-2 free throws with 2 buckets. Eight Bobcats got in the scorebook.
CHBC sank 29 shots (1-3) for 59 points from the floor. They were perfect at the line (8-of-8. St. Anthony scored 17 baskets, including a quartet of treys for 38 points. They were just 4-of-9 at the stripe.
Guy led St. Anthony with 14 on 6 scores, two from downtown. Fearday followed almost in double figures with 8 point, all from the floor.
CHBC (18-5) host Neoga on Monday then play at Windsor on Thursday.
