CHBC junior high volleyball is picking up steam. The 7th (4-6) and the 8th (1-9) both swept marathon matches on the same night for the first time this season on Monday. CHBC 7th beat Dieterich 25-17, 20-25-, 25-18 and the CHBC 8th beat Dieterich, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21.

The CBHC 7th went 2-1 last weekend at the Pana tourney. The squads have one sweep together and are getting a taste of winning. 

CHBC 7th out-scored Dieterich 70 to 55 in the 3-set match. CHBC got a foothold and won the 1st set by 8. Momentum cost then a 5-point loss in the 2nd set, but mo switched right back in the 3rd set for a CHBC 7-point win for the match.

"The girls fought hard and played well," said CHBC coach Angela Jefferies. "They are learning to communicate better, but there is still some work to be done."

CHBC served 18 aces and hit 15 kills for 33 attack points out of 70 (40.7%). They dished 6 assists towards the 15 kills (46.7%), so over half of the kills were free balls and 1-timers. CHBC scooped 12 digs in 3 sets.

Kyleigh Linder overwhelmed Dieterich with 17 points, 5 aces and 7 kills for 12 attack points. Birgen Schlanser was almost as brutal to Dieterich. She served 11 points with a team-high 7 aces (63%) and 2 kills for 9 attack points.

Macee Rodman dished all 6 assists and hit 3 kill to be part of 9 attack points.Addison Wasson stepped up to serve 6 points with 3 aces (50%) and hit 2 kills for 5 attack points. Ellie Miller served 5 points and 3 of them were aces (60%). Linder also led the defense with 5 digs, followed by Schlanser with 3.

Monday

7th

CHBC def. Dieterich, 25-17, 20-25, 25-18

CHBC stats: Kyleigh Linder 17 points, 5 aces, 7 kills, 5 digs; Birgen Schlanser 11 points, 7 aces, 2 kills, 3 digs; Macee Rodman 3 points, 6 assists, 3 kills, 2 digs; Addiosn Wasson 6 points, 3 aces, 2 kills; Ellie Miller 5 points, 3 aces, 2 digs; Lizzie Parks 3 points; Lexie Parks 1 kill.

The 8th grade almost mirrored the 7th in their take down of Dieterich 8th. They out-scored the Maroons, 71 to 62, winning the 1st set by 9, losing the 2nd set by 4, then winning the final set by 4. 

"The 8th grade communication is coming along, but they still need to strengthen this skill,' Coach Jefferies said. "Serving percentage went down a bit, but serve receive has gotten much better since the beginning of the season."

CHBC 8th served 14 aces in the match and hit 12 kills with 3 blocks for 29 attack points out of 71 (40%), almost the same percentage of points as the 7th grade.

Ten Bobcats got in the act on Monday. Five servers shared the 14 aces and 7 hitters shared the 12 kills. Seven defenders shared the 11 digs.

Katlyn Arnett and Marissa Summers led at the line. Arnett served 12 points with 4 aces (33%). Summers served 5 points, all aces (100%). Summers added 2 kills and 2 blocks to lead the team with 9 attack points.

Audri Kaiser served 5 points with 2 aces and hit 2 kills for 4 attack points like Arnett. Hadley Hagler served 6 points with 2 aces and hit 2 kills for 4 attack points. Ruby Stuckemeyer hit 2 kills and a block for 3 attack points. 

Shae Nohren and Arnett led the defense with 3 digs, each.

CHBC 7th (5-6) and 8th (2-9) travel to Ramsey on Tuesday, then Mulberry Grove on Thursday. CHBC 7th then plays the NTC Tourney on Saturday.
