The CHBC girls basketball team (21-8, 4-4), the regional 2nd seed played North Clay in the North Clay 1A Regional on Tuesday and passed them to advance to the final, 58-42.

CHBC had already beaten them by 28 points and by 17 points. They didn’t get an advantage in the 1st period. In fact, North Clay was up one to start the 4th, 12-11.

However, in the 2nd period, CHBC launched into a 22-12 run to give the Bobcats a 9-point lead at the half, 33-24. After the half, CHBC and North Clay played stiffer defense. CHBC still had the edge, 13-8, pushing their lead to 14 points, 46-32.

In crunch time, North Clay was held in check and CHBC stayed a pace ahead, 12-10, posting a 16-point victory.

CHBC leading scorer Jaelyn Robertson led everyone with 23 points, shooting 44% from the field. She scored 7 times from the floor (2-3s) and was 7-of-11 at the line. Robertson also dished a team-high 5 assists and had 2 steals. Lauren Wojcik followed with 9 points and 4 boards. She had 3 buckets with a 3 and 2-of-4 at the line. Seven Bobcats scored.

Lani Morrison was the secret weapon. She had 6 points, shooting 43%, but also grabbed 12 rebounds, 8 of them offensive. She also dished 4 assists and recorded a season-high 7 steals. Mackenzie Bunch had 6 points (1-3)and 6 boards

Madison Lovett led North Clay with 22 points. She scored 8 times with 2 treys and 4-of-5 free throws. Freshman Allison Czyzewski followed with 14 points. Only 4 Cardinals scored.

CHBC had a season-high 43 rebounds, 14 assists and 13 steals with 17 turnovers (27:17). Their activity in the floor game was a difference-maker.

CHBC scored 21 times from the floor with 5 treys for 47 points. North Clay scored 16 times, 3 from distance, for 35 points. CHBC was 11-of-21 at the line and North Clay was 7-of-14.

CHBC was to play Brownstown/St. Elmo (21-8) in the title game on Thursday. Brownstown has beaten CHBC twice, once in OT and the last time by 13.
