The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats won their own Thanksgving Tourney on Saturday, holding off Windsor/Stew-Stras in the title game, 41-33.

CHBC beat Cumberland, 56-23, on the first day of the tourney. CHBC beat Sandoval on Day 2, 63-35, and beat eventual the 3rd place team, Neoga, 56-51.

Windsor/Stew-Stras ran the table, until they met CHBC. Even then, the Hatchets gave the Bobcats a run for their money in the odd quarters. The problem was they also played two even quarters, where the Bobcats roared.

WSS was up by 4 after the first 8:00, 11-7. In the 2nd frame, CHBC blitzed the Hatchets with a 14-5 run. That gave CHBC a 5-point lead at the break, 21-16.

In the 3rd (odd), WSS was 2-point betters, 12-10 and pulled to within 3 points, 31-28. In crunch time, the even 4th quarter, CHBC doubled-up the Hatchets, 10-5, and pulled away for the 8-point win and the championship.

Lauren Wojcik stepped up in the championship leading CHBC with 14 points on 7 field goals. Jaelyn Robertson followed with 10 points. Robertson had 3 buckets, two from downtown, and was 2-of-2 at the line. Lani Morrison and Mackenzie Bunch had 5 points, each, off a deuce and a trey.

Nichols and Hannah Hayes repeated their out-put from the Dieterich game. They led WSS with 17 and 9 points. Nichols almost had a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds. She made 8-of-14 field goals (57.1%) and 1-of-2 at the line (50%). She had 2 offensive and 7 defensive boards and a team-high 4 steals.

Hayes scored 9 points on 3-of-7 two-pointers (42.5%) and 1-of-3 treys (33%), for a total of 40% from the field. Hayes had a team-high 5 assists. The two leaders got little scoring support. Three other players combined for 7 points, total.

WSS has never been a 3-point shooting team. They were 2-of-5 for 6 points from the arc with Hannah Hayes and Chloe Dasenbrock making one each. CHBC made 5 treys for 15 points from distance. Robertson had a pair and Morrison, Gracie Heckert and Bunch had solo treys.

Neither team shot many free throws. WSS was just 1-of-4 and CHBC was just 2-of-4. Three-pointers made the difference for CHBC.

The All-Tournament Team was announced (no specific order): Hannah Hayes WSS, Jaelyn Robertson CHBC, Emily Johnson Macon Meridian, Olivia Titus Neoga, Brooke Locey Dieterich, Mikala Nichols WSS, Kylie Phillps Neoga, Lauren Wojcik CHBC
