Nick Ferris had a 3-run home run to give the Comets the 7-4 lead.

Stew-Stras baseball (1-4) has had a rough go early this season, but on Tuesday the Comets got one in the win column, beating Brownstown like the neighbor's mule, 14-2.

The Comets exploded for six runs right out of the gate. Brownstown answered with a pair of runs, but then the Bombers' bats went silent. The Comets didn't cross the plate the next two frames and held the 4-run lead until the 4th when the got those two Bomber runs back.

Leading 8-2 in the top of the 5th, Stew-Stras floored and left Brownstown in the dust with a 6-run inning. Up by a dozen, the Comets held serve in the bottom of the 5th and rang the early dismissal bell, 14-2.

Newkirk led the Comets with three hits, driving in three runs. Wascher had two hits and drove in four runs. Theis also had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs. Vonderheide helped himself by getting two hits, himself.

Vonderheide struck out nine batters in just five innings to get the win.

After getting on the winning track on Tuesday, the Comets got side-swiped by North Clay on Wednesday in an 8-inning, see-saw battle, 12-11.

The Comets drew first blood again in the 1st, leading 2-0. The added a 4-run rally in the 2nd for a 6-0 lead. , North Clay got a run in the books the bottom of the inning, then evened things up with a 5-run rally in the 3rd, 6-6.

The Comets took a 1-run lead in the 5th, but then North Clay came right back with another 5-run rally to lead 11-7. The Comets didn't give up. They had one more rally left and scored four in the top of the 7th to make a game of it, 11-11. The Comets held serve in the bottom fo the 7th and it was on to extra-innings.

The Comets didn't score in the top of the 8th and left the door open for the home team. North Clay scored a solo run off a walk-off double by Walker.
