Windsor/Stew-Stras limped into the Mt. Pulaski pre-postseason tournament on a 2-game losing streak. But the Hatchets emerged with a couple of feathers in their cap, as they head to the Cerro Gordo Regional with a 3rd place trophy.

“I’m very proud of the girls for taking the 3rd Place trophy,” said WSS coach Ronda Schlechte. “They fought hard in four 3-set matches and found a way to win. Hopefully, this will provide confidence as we begin regional play.”

WSS beat started the day in pool play beating Edwards County, 25-22, 18-25, 15-11. They then knocked off Mt. Pulaski, 25-16, 14-25, 15-9. WSS then got revenge on Shelbyville for a pair of losses this season. WSS beat the Rams, 13-25, 25-20, 15-8.

In the crossover match, the hatchets went just two games in a loss to Mt. Zion, 18-25, 12-25. Rather than throw in the towel at that point, the Hatchets took on Shelbyville again for 3rd place. WSS won again in 3, but just by 2 points, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13.

The biggest feather in WSS’ cap was beating Shelbyville twice in a 3-set showdowns. Their first meeting of the year they were out-matched. In the second meeting they closed the gap. It was gut-checks wins on Saturday against their rivals and club volleyball teammates.

Mackinzee Reynolds led WWS at the net with an 11-kill, a 9-kill, and an 8-kill match, 36 total kills in the tourney and 47 attack points, including 14.5 and 13.5 attack point matches.

Anna Schlechte scooped 63 digs in the tourney to help defend WSS and keep them in contention for those 3-set wins.

WSS finished the day with just one loss, 4-1 and finished the regular season with 20 wins and a record of 21-14.
