On Wednesday the state champion Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets hacked their way past Neoga in the NTC semifinal to get them to the title game on Friday against South Central, 8-2.

Calla Roney was back from injury and came on in relief of Karlie Bean. who had things in hand. A 4-run Hatchet 2nd gave them the boost and they led 6-0 going into the 4th. Neoga pulled to within 4 in the 6th, but WSS scored two more nails in the coffin and held serve for the win.

Bean KO'd two Indians in the 1st and got the other to pop out to Ava Bennett at 2nd. WSS got on the board first in the 1st with a rally that fizzled. Carson Cole led off with a single and Hannah Hayes reached on an error. Megan Schlechte walked to load the bases with no outs.

The next batter struck out, then Bean lifted a sac fly. Cole tagged and scored, 1-0. Bennett reached on a fielder's choice, but Hayes was caught stealing home.

WSS put Neoga down in order again in the 2nd. bean threw a K, Cole squeezed a pop at short and Bennett a liner at 2nd. The bottom of the 2nd was the watershed.

Freshman Maddy Pfeiffer led off with a double. Katrina Davis reached on an error. Freshman Natalie Hayes, who would go 3-for-3 in this game, singled a run home, 2-0. Cole bunted Davis home and everyone was safe, 3-0.

Hannah Hayes lifted a sac fly and her little sister tagged and scored from 3rd, 4-0. The first big hit of the day was senior Megan Schlechte's RBI-triple, 5-1. The next two Hatchets hit the ball, but right at people. Bean rang up all three batters in the Neoga 3rd on just 10 pitches, one over the minimum.

Neoga held WSS to just one run again in the 3rd. Bennett led off with an error. Pfeiffer sac bunted her to 2nd. Davis grounded and moved Bennett to 3rd. Natalie Hayes provided the other big hit, another RBI triple, 6-0. Cole was hit and Hannah Hayes walked to load the bases with two outs. Neo made the play on a grounder and limited the rout.

The Indians got on the board in the 4th. Bean rang up the first batter, then walked a batter. A sac bunt was played for the out, but the runner got to 2nd. Bean gave up her only single and the run scored, 6-1. Bean threw out the next batter at 1st.

WSS went in order in the 4th, hitting the ball. Neo went in order in the 5th facing Roney. Roney threw out the first batter and KO'd the next two. With two outs in the WSS 5th, Natalie Hayes added a double to her resume, but was stranded.

Neoga squeezed out a run in the 6th. Roney threw a K and gave up her first single. She rang up the next batter, but gave up another single. Partlow stole home for the run, then the runner on 1st was caught stealing, 6-2.

Neoga was dead in the water for the 7th. Cole playing 3rd threw out the first batter. Roney rang up the next two batters for the game.

WSS is obviously reloading with several seniors on the state champion team. Freshman Karlie Bean threw the win allowing one hit and one walk, and striking out 7.
