Nichols inside

Mikala Nichols had 22 points, 21 rebounds for another 20/20 double-double to lead WSS past Ramsey on Monday, 48-28.

On the heels of an upset of CHBC on Monday in Windsor, the host Windsor/Stew-Stras girls basketball team sheared the Ramsey Rams on Tuesday by 20, 48-28.

The Hatchet dissection of Ramsey was constant throughout the game. WSS pulled ahead in the 1st period with a 15-8 run to lead by 7. WSS took a breath in the 2nd and the Rams broke free to compete, 12-10. WSS was still up by 9 at the break, 27-18.

The 3rd period saw more separation by WSS with a 14-6 run. They led by 17 heading into the 4th quarter, 41-24. The Rams had no stampede in them, so WSS corralled them in the final frame, 7-4, for the 20-point victory.

WSS was led, once again, by juniors Mikala Nichols and Hannah Hayes. Nichols recorded another 20-20, double-double, with 22 points and 21 rebounds.

Nichols scored 10 times on 20 shots (50%) from the floor and made 2-of-2 at the line. She grabbed 11 offensive boards and 10 defensive. She added a steal and blocked 2 shots.

Hannah Hayes was in double figures, scoring 14 points, all from the floor (7 baskets), shooting 50% from 2-point range. She added 2 assists and 3 steals.

Freshman Natalie Hayes just missed double figures with 8 points, including 4-of-6 at the line. She also shot 50% from the floor (2/4). She grabbed four boards with 2 assists and 2 steals. Chloe Dasenbrock led WSS with 4 steals.

WSS shot 35% from the floor, as a team, and was 0-for-2 from the arc. They snared 39 rebounds and picked 12 steals with just 13 turnovers.

WSS (16-11) has a chance to avenge a loss as they travel to North Clay on Thursday. They lost by 18 in their last meeting. WSS plays at Neoga next Tuesday.
