The state champion Windsor/Stew-Stras softball team reigned on Edinburg's 1A Pawnee Regional appearance on Tuesday. The Hatchets sliced 'n diced the Wildcats in 5 innings, 12-0.

Edinburg was the #10 seed going against the #1 seed. Edinburg was awarded the right to play the state champs, because Raymond Lincolnwood (#9 seed) forfeited.

Into the Lion's Den went the Wildcats. After Roney made the play on a lead-off bunt attempt and Schlechte threw her first K in the 1st, opposing pitcher Rylee Burney got a single. She was caught stealing 2nd as catcher Mackenzi Tabbert gunned her down and shortstop Karlie Bean made the tag.

Schlechte would go on to throw a 2-hit shutout with 8 Ks and one walk. Burney was the only Wildcat to hit her.

WSs wasted little time posting a huge lead. With one out in the 1st, Hannah Hayes walked and stole 2nd. Schlechte smacked her first double of the game, 1-0. Tabbert walked and Calla Roney singled Schlechte home, 2-0.

Bean singled to load the bases. Ava Bennett  singled to right driving in two runs, 4-0. Maddy Pfeiffer followed with a single, driving in two more runs, 6-0. Pfeiffer went to 2nd and Natalie Hayes pinch ran.

Hayes went to 3rd on a wild pitch. Katrina Davis singled her home, 7-0. Eight consecutive Hatchets reached base in the inning, two batted around.

Schlechte gave up a 2-out walk in the 2nd, but KO'd two more batters. Bean threw the other out, short to 1st. WSS went in order in the 2nd with a grounder and two pop ups. E'burg went in order in the 3rd with a ground out to Bennett, 2nd to 1st and two more Schlechte Ks.

WSS added a run in the 3rd. With one out, Bennett scalded a triple. Pfeiffer hit a ground out and Bennett scored, 8-0. Burney hit the other Edinburg single in the 4th. But, Schlechte rang up two other batters and Burney was thrown out again by Tabbert, trying to steal 2nd.

WSS put the 10-run into effect in the 4th. With one out, Hannah Hayes got to 1st on a dropped 3rd strike. Schlechte then smacked her second double, 9-0. Tabbert followed with an RBI-triple, 10-0. 

Roney reached on an error and Tabbert scored, 11-0. Bean reached on a fielder's choice, forcing Roney at 2nd. Bennett singled and Bean scored on an error on the play as Bennett went to 3rd, 12-0. 

Edinburg faced elimination in the 5th. Cole caught a fly in center or the 1st out. bean made a play on a grounder to short for the 2nd out. Schlechte threw a K, but Tabbert dropped it. She threw to 1st for the out anyway and ended the game early.

WSS was led in hitting by Ava Bennett Bennett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, a stole base, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Schlechte was 2-for-3 with two doubles, 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Seven Hatchets hit safely. 

WSS (33-1-1) will play Morrisonville in the regional final on Friday at 4;30 p.m. Morrisonville (#5 seed) upset the #4 seed, Pawnee, on Tuesday 3-2.
