Saturday morning, the Shelbyville High School Lady Rams JV and Varsity basketball teams totally defused the Bombers of Argenta-Oreana, 37-23 and 60-48. Rams freshman center, Ann Nottingham, usually alternates at the center position with Brittany Davis who is out with a wrist injury. Nottingham filled in by playing in both the JV and varsity games, and was top gun overall with a two-game total of 35 points. Nottingham hit 23 for the varsity and playing in only the second half of the JV game, still walked away with the game high of 12. Also noteworthy, Nottingham was near perfect from the foul line, going 10-11 (91%) in the combined games, 2-2, 9-10. As a team, the Rams JV were 75% from the foul line and the varsity was no slouch either at 62%.

Marissa Watson also played a mega-hustle game, netting 13 points, setting up plays and scrapping hard for the jump ball, and taking four hard falls to the hardwood and bouncing back up to resume action.

In the Saturday make-up games, the varsity played first in reverse of the usual order, and came out with a 9-5 lead in the first period. Marissa Watson hit two free throws; Precious Mulvany and Katie Thomas hit for a bucket each and Rachel Burgess hit a floor shot and freebie.

In the second period, the Lady Rams ignited for 19 points to the Bombers 12. Marissa Watson hit for triple baskets, Katee Lira went 2-2 from the foul line and Ann Nottingham hit three solo shots plus 5-5 from the stripe. The Lady Rams varsity team carried a 28-17 lead into the third period.

The Lady Rams continued to score well in the third, with Thomas, Lira, and Watson finding the bottom of the net. Nottingham sunk two from underneath and added another four-four from the shot line to give the JV a 42-28 edge.

In the fourth period, the Bombers launched a last-ditch scoring attack, ringing up 20 points. The Rams only needed six points to win, but added another 18. Lira and Ashley Rork went doubles and Precious Mulvany sank a solo basket. Nottingham hit for double buckets also and missed her only foul shot. The Lady Rams were in charge the entire game, taking the win 60-48.

In the JV match-up, Shelbyville put up three points in the first period, a basket from Cassie Schneider and a free throw by Paige Biehler. Schneider was perfect form the foul line in the second period going 4-4, while Staci Navis hit a layup to give the Lady Rams six. But going into half time, the Bombers held the lead, 10-9. Paige Biehler kept the ball in play for the Rams, coming up with the game high of nine take-aways.

Starting out the third period, Kelsey Finks nailed a jump shot. Ann Nottingham and Precious Mulvany came in after resting up from the varsity game. Nottingham came in with a steal and layup for the first lead in the game at 13-12. Nottingham hit another two from the foul line and did the put-back on the rebound. Suddenly, the Rams were ahead, 17-12. A-O scored again to pull close at 14-17, but went cold, as the JV Rams cranked out 10 unanswered points- four from Mulvany, four from Nottingham and two from Biehler. The Rams never trailed again, taking a 27-16 lead into the fourth period.

The Bombers fought back in the fourth, but could only get as close as 23-31. Mulvany did the shovel pass underneath to Navis for two more and Nottingham added another easy up before leaving the game with 1:45 remaining. Staci Navis closed out the Rams victory with two swishers from the line. Rams win 35-23.
