Joselyn Lewis chopped down batters for the Shelbyville Ram softball team, now she is going to clear timber for the Loggers.
Lewis, the most recent ace for the Rams, has signed to play college softball at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield.
The Loggers were 25-24 last spring and 18-6 in conference. They beat John Wood in the Region playoffs, but lost the next two games to end their season.
This shortened spring season, the Loggers went 4-6. They won the first three games, then lost 5 straight. They were 2-6 on their Florida trip, then the season was called due to COVID.
Last year they started 1-13 with the Florida trip and then went 24-11, the rest of the year, so this year’s trip south was an improvement.
The Logger coach is Rachel Wisner, who graduated from East Richland High School in 2013 and went on to play softball at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL.
As a freshman at Lincoln Land, she was selected for the 2014 All-Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC) second team and Academic All-Conference team. After her second year at Lincoln Land, she was selected to the 2015 MWAC Athletic and Academic conference first teams.
Wisner was also named as an NJCAA All-American. She helped her team at Lincoln Land to finish 7th and 5th place in the NJCAA Nationals for 2014 and 2015 years respectively.
The next two years for 2016 and 2017, Rachel committed to Tusculum College, a NCAA Division II softball program in Greeneville, TN. Rachel gained knowledge in all aspects of the game during her 4 years of collegiate play.
Wisner specializes in catching which was her primary position for all 4 years of college. She has experience working with collegiate pitchers. Her secondary position was third base on the infield.
Lewis didn’t get to play this spring as a Shelbyville senior, due to the virus crisis. As a junior she did her part to give the Rams a chance to win.
