Five Ram freshmen-sophomore wrestlers extended their season by competing in the Fresh-Soph Regional Tournament in Gibson City on Sunday February 26 and the Stanford Olympia Sectional Tournament Sunday, March 5.

At Regional, Shelbyville was represented by freshmen Ryan Brown, Trent Courtright and Cody Logue and sophomore Nate Bly. Windsor sophomore James Strowmatt, a former Shelbyville Jr. Ram wrestler, also made the trip.

Bly and Strowmatt finished Regional with second places. Logue and Brown wrestled four times each against other Regional foes, before meeting in their fifth match of the day, for third place. Logue edged brown, 5-4, with an escape with only six seconds left in the match. Trent Courtright won his first match, but lost the next two and did not place.

At Sectional last Sunday, Strowmatt was 0-2 and did not pace, while Bly was 2-2 and finished in fourth place, including a double-overtime victory. Once again, Brown and Logue met again in the semifinal wrestlebacks with Logue winning and advancing to the third place match.

Logue avenged a loss at the hands of the Regional 2nd place finisher, with a 13-10 come-from-behind victory. That made Logue the lone representative from Shelbyville heading to the Fresh-Soph State this weekend at Xavier University in Chicago.
