Monticello softball built a 5-run lead early, but the Moulton Rams came back. Moulton fell short of catching Monty and lost 5-4.

The Rams came up on the short end of the stick on a couple calls early in a game they came back and lost by one run. But in the end, they couldn’t get they tying run home.

Monticello used a walk and a fielding error (Shelby had four) to get on the board. A sacrifice fly and a single made it 1-0. Another error in the same inning made it 2-0.

Kinzee Musser singled her way on right away in the Ram 1st, but was surprisingly called out for leaving the base early, the second contested call in the 1st inning. Shelby went in order in the 1st and 2nd.

Monty added 3 more runs in the 2nd. Musser threw her second K, then a single, a walk, and a single put on the pressure. After Emily Duckett caught a pop up at short, another single gave Monty a 5-0 lead. Haylee Huinter caught a line drive in left to cap the Monty scoring in the 2nd and for the game.

Musser threw out the first batter in the Monty 3rd, then rang up the second batter. After another booted ball, Monty doubled. with two runners in scoring position, Musser rang up the 3rd out.

Shelby finally got on board in the 3rd. With one out, the bottom of the order, Alex Jokisch and Haylee Hunter hit consecutive singles. Musser hit her way on and drove in both runs. She was out dead to rights, stealing 3rd. A fly out ended the rally, 5-2.

Monty went in order in the 4th. Elyse Lape caught a fly in center, The Ram catcher gunned down a batter at 1st and Musser squeezed a pop up.

Amber Lewis reached on a lead-off error in the Ram 4th. Lape sacrificed her to 2nd. Claire Canada reached on an error and Lewis scored, 5-3. Monty popped out to Millie Clark at 2nd in the 5th. Clark then threw out a batter at 1st. After a walk, Musser rang up the #9 hitter.

Hunter walked with one out in the Ram 5th, but was out stealing. Kinzee Musser walked but was left on. Monty got nothing in the 6th. Musser threw out a batter, threw a K and Duckett squeezed a pop up.

In the Ram 6th, Lape walked with one out. Canada sac-bunted her to 2nd. Duckett smacked a double to make it a 1-run ball game, 5-4. A pop up with two outs left Duckett in scoring position.

Lape caught the first out of the Monty 7th on a fly to center. Musser struck out a batter and walked a batter. She rang up her 8th victim to retired Monty.

Shelby hit a fly ball to start their last ups. It was caught. a ground ball to 2nd was out #2. Musser came up, but popped out to short, as the rams came up short.

Only four Rams got hits, Kinzze Musser, Emily Duckett, Alex Jokisch and Haylee Hunter. Duckett had a RBI double. Jokich and Huter scored and Elyse Lape, who walked scored, and Lewis scored off an error.

Musser was getting hit early, but settled in and finished with 8 Ks against 6 hits and 3 walks.
