Like ships passing in the night, the Shelbyville Moulton girls 7th and 8th basketball teams are still headed in opposite directions. Shelby 7th lost to Warrensburg on Tuesday, 27-16, and the Ram 8th beat Warrensburg, 35-16.

Shelby 7th started in a hole with a Warrensburg 6-0 run. Turner scored twice and Dutcher once.

Shelby got on the board in the 2nd, but W-L still doubled them up, 8-4. Turner scored two more times. Jay and Dutcher scored once, each. Marley Phelps and Jaycee Brinkoetter each scored for Shelby. The Rams were down by 10 at the break, 14-4.

Shelby found themselves in the 3rd, taking the period, 10-8. Brinkoetter scored twice and Kenzie Jones got on board with two scores. McKinley Hippard had a two.

Dutcher scored twice for W-L, Jay and Turner once, each. W-L was still up by 8, 22-14. W-L order was restored in the 4th. They went on a final 5-2 run.

Kylee McDonald scored for the Rams, while the Rams missed all four of their foul shots. Dutcher scored again for W-L and Taylor scored. Whightsil made a free throw.

Brinkoetter led Shelby with 6 points, while Turner and Dutcher had a game-high 10 points, each, for W-L.

Tuesday

7th

In he prime time tilt, Shelby held a slight lead early, then trumped the Cards to double them up at the buzzer.

Kinzee Musser pushed the ball and got to the line early. She made 2-of-4 shots. Millie Clark, Dru Clark and Gabby Golding added solo twos for the lead. Warrensburg got solo twos from three players, Slinvy, Czajuowch, and Turner to trail, 8-6.

Ram defense stymied W-L in the 2nd holding them to just one bucket from Slinvy. Meanwhile, Musser scored 4 times in the period. Golding converted a 3-point play and Dru Clark made both free throws for 13 points. The 13-2 run gave Shelby a 13-point lead at the half, 21-8.

The 3rd period was a good time to go to the concession stand, as only 3 points were scored in 6:00. Golding had a deuce and Caroline White made 1-of-2 foul shots. Leading by 16, Shelby was in the catbird seat, 24-8.

By contrast, the 4th period was an uptempo finish with 19 points scored. Shelby won the period and cashed in their win. Slinvy scored twice for W-L and jay and Roach once, each.

Musser capped her game high 14 points with two more scores. Millie and dru Clark scored once, each and Kenzie Jones got in and scored. White split two more free throws.

Musser led with 14 points on 6 buckets and 2-of-4 at the line. Golding followed with 7 on 3 baskets and a free throw. Dru Clark had 6. Slinvy led W-L with 6 points.

Shelbyville 7th and 8th host Altamont on Thursday.
