The Shelbyville Moulton girls basketball teams and Pana Junior High flipped their scripts on Saturday. The Pana 7th grade beat Shelbyville, 20-16, in the morning, then the Shelby 8th grade beat Pana in the matinee, 27-18.

The Rams got hacked in the 7th grade game and improved free throw shooting kept them in the game. The lead teeter-tottered. But down the stretch, the Ram guns were almost silent as Pana pushed past for the win.

Pana held a 2-point lead after the 1st period. Ally Sarver scored twice for the Panthers and Cooper Dressen once. Shelby got a bucket from Marley Phelps, then Jaycee Brinkoetter and Kenzie Jones both split a pair of free throws. Pana led 6-4.

In the 2nd, the Rams held Pana to just one bucket from Kaylee Brown. Shelby go two buckets from Brinkoetter and 1-of-2 at the line for 5 of their 6 points. Jones added 1-of-2 at the line. The 6-2 run gave Shelby a 2-point lead at the half, 10-8.

In the 3rd, Pana made two buckets, their forte. Brown and Ambrose provided the solo buckets. Shelby made 4 free throws, their forte. Alex Jokisch got on the board making 3-of-4 foul shots. Jones made 1-of-3. The two teams kicked the can down the road sustaining the 2-point Ram lead, 14-12.

In the 4th, Pana blew up the can with 4 baskets. Brown made two, Dressen one and Henschen one in an 8-2 run. Kenzie Jones had the only Ram score, to get beat at the wire, 20-16.

Pana stats: Brown 6 (3 FGs, 0/1 FTs), Henschen 4 (2 FGs, 0/4 FTs), Sarevr 44 (2 FGs), Dressen 4 (2 FGs), Ambrose 2 (FG). Team FGs 10. Team FTs 0-for-5.  

In the matinee, Pana once again started with a lead. However, the Rams charged back and kept control for the win.  

Vaughn led Pana 8th early with two free throws, then two buckets. Laramore drained a 3 and Pana was up 9-4. Millie Clark had a field goal for Shelby and Gabby Golding had been fouled twice, making 2-of-4 free throws. Shelby was quickly down by 5.

The 2nd frame was a complete turnaround. Vaughn had a solo bucket and Rochkes made 1-of-2 fouls shots and that was it. Meanwhile, Pana assaulted the Rams. 

Shelbyville got to the line five times for 13 free throws. They made just 5, but it still added their score. Shelby also made 5 buckets in a 15-3 run.

Kinzee Musser scored twice from the floor and made 1-of-2 foul shots for 5 points. Millie Clark made two baskets and made 1-of-2 free throws for another 5 points. Golding had a deuce and made 2-of-5 free throws. Dru Clark made 1-of-4 foul shots. Shelby charged into the 8-point lead at the half, 19-11. 

Shelby kept serve in the 3rd with a 6-3 run. Golding scored two more times from the floor. Caroline White got on the board with a two. Smith scored for Pana and Vaughn made 1-of-2 free throws. 

Shelby was up by double-digits going into the 4th, 25-15. In the final frame, scoring was minimal. Laramore nailed another 3 for Pana. White scored a two for Shelby to secure the 9-point victory.

Gabby Golding led all scorers with 10 points on 3 buckets and 4-of-9 foul shooting. Vaughn followed for Pana with 9 points on 3 buckets and 3-of-6 foul shooting. 

Millie Clark had 7 points for Shelby with 3 buckets and 1-of-2 free throws and Laramore had 6 for Pana on a pair of 3s. From their top 2 scorers, Shelby led 17 to 15. Three more Rams gave them the cushion with another 10 points, while Pana's other two scorers had just 3 points. 

Shelby 8th had 6 more made field goals and 3 more made free throws.

Moulton 7th and 8th play next on Tuesday at Warrensburg.
