Shelbyville Moulton girls basketball teams split on Thursday at Meridian. Shelby 8th eked out a 1-point win, 40-39. Shelby 7th was doubled up, 28-15.

Meridian 7th ran out to an 8-3 lead in the 1st period. They got 4 buckets in the first 6:00. All Shelby got was a 3-pointer from Kenzie Jones. In the 2nd period, the Hawks got 3 solo buckets. The only Ram score was a 2-pointer from Alex Jokisch. Meridian led at the half, 14-5.

The 3rd period was closer, but the Rams couldn't make up ground. Woolington had all 3 Hawks buckets. Jaycee Brinkoetter and Jones had a basket, each. The same advantage led Meridian in the 4th.

Ward scored 3 times and Renfro once. Kylee McDonald scored twice for Shelby and Marley Phelps made two free throws. Meridian won by 23 points. Meridian made 14 buckets to Shelby's 5. 

Woolington and Ward led the game with 12 and 10 points. Jones led Shelby with 5 points.


Meridian 28, Shelbyville 15

The Rams upperclassmen fought to stay up with the Hawk offense and won by a point.

Meridian took a lead in the 1st period, 14-9. They knocked down two 3s and four 2-pointers. Gabby Golding scored twice. Dru Clark had a deuce and 1-of-2 free throws. Caroline White scored, but they were down by 5.

Shelby flipped the script in the 2nd with a 10-6 run. Woolington and Ward had a deuce and two buckets, respectively.  Dru Clark scored twice and made 1-for-2 foul shots. Kinzee Musser made two free throws and then sank a 3. The deficit was cut to one at the half, 20-19.

Shelby repeated that feat in the 3rd. Musser scored three more times. Dru Clark scored once and Golding once. Meridian got 6 foul shots and made just two. Woolington added a deuce. Shelby took a 5-point lead, 29-24.

The 4th period was a fireworks show. Meridian scored 15 points and Shelby 11. There were 9 buckets, 3-of-8 shots from the line.

Ganiere made a 3, then a 2, then a 3 for 8 points in the 4th. Five Rams scored. Pistorius made a deuce and 1-of-2 foul shots. Scurlock made 2-of-4 free throws and a deuce for 15 Hawk points.

However, Jaycee Brinkoetter scored twice in the 4th. Golding, Dru Clark, and Millie Clark had solo 2s. Caroline White made 1-of-2 foul shots for 11 Ram points. With a 5-point lead to start the 4th, the Rams survived the crunch time deficit by a point for the win.

Ganiere led all scorers with 15 points. Dru Clark and Kinzee Musser led the Rams with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
