Moulton Eighth took their opening match in the Okaw Junior High Conference Eighth Grade Tournament by drubbing Monticello 21-16, 18-21, 21-18.

Tarci Howell led the Lady Ram attack with a monster 23 points in the three-game duel. Alexis Flore hit for 12 points and led in assists with 11. Brittany Peifer was top headhunter in kills with 10 and also popped for six points. Lexi Jarnigan and Jackie Wiseman had seven points each and Ranae Julius came in with five.

Moulton eighth grade head coach Lisa Peifer said, “We came out of the gate quick in all three games only to see us lose focus down the stretch in the 2nd and 3rd games. This match should never have been as close as it was. At times, we played so well, taking good swings and serving tough. At other times we played timid and out of control.”

But Peifer was also quick to note the efforts of her players. “Tarci Howell was awesome at the service line and Brittany did a good job at the net while Lexi passed some great balls for the assists from Jackie and Alexis. Ranae Julius stepped up for us because Stefanie Shanks was injured. Julius had four kills and I’m happy we pulled out this win because we were the better team.”

Moulton Scoring Stats: Jarnigan 7 pts, 4 kills, 6 digs; Flore 12 pts, 2 kills, 1 dig, 11 assists; Julius 5 pts, 4 kills, 3 digs; Peifer 6 pts, 10 kills, 2 blocks 2 digs; Wiseman 7 pts, 2 kills, 1 dig, 6 assists; Howell 23 pts, 3 kills 1 dig.

The Moulton eighth go to 12-3 on the season and next play Meridian at 6:00 p.m. in Monticello on Tuesday.
