The Moulton Lady Ram volleyball teams stepped away from conference play to take on a county rival on Tuesday night, Okaw Valley, in Findlay. The Ram 7th and 8th earned another sweep, while the Okaw 8th, which had been playing well, took a hit.

Moulton 7th started slow, but still was able to win their seventh straight match, 25-17, 25-21.

“We seemed to be a little sluggish tonight, but were still able to pull through in the end thanks to a turnaround in our serving from game 1 to game 2,” said Ram 7th coach Stephanie Shoaff. “We gave up a few too many points off serve receive and then we were very slow on our transitions. On a positive, I thought Morgan Voyles had a very good night passing and continued to show improvement from the service line.

Voyles served up 11 points, including sizzling five aces past the T’Wolves. The other Morgan of the double-Morgan attack, Morgan Lawrence, led the Rams at the line with 17 points, including ten non-returnable serves. Lindsey Eigsti also led the Rams in serving with nine points and two aces.

Brandy Smith improves every match and is starting to loom large at the net. Smith led Shelby with 3 kills to go with her four points and two aces. Brianna Ruff led the Rams with three assists.

“Hopefully, we can pick our pace back up by Thursday so we are ready for the next match,” Coach Shoaff said.

In the anticipated 8th grade match between the Timberwolves and Rams, the rivalry wasn’t as close as in former years. Moulton 8th, scored a solid win in straight games, 25-15, 25-17.

“Okaw could keep the ball alive and really made us work at times,” said Ram 8th coach Lisa Peifer. “The one thing that stood out as a negative for us was the missed serves and free points we gave them. I do feel the kids are getting better and are playing smarter. It was a good win.”

Grace Moll bounced back from a sub-par hitting performance against Monticello, to lead the Rams at the net with six kills. Once again, Cinnae Martin was the Ram ace, serving up a team-high ten points, with three aces. Moll also had three aces. Maggie Bosgraaf and Libby Blackford combined for 10 of the 11 Ram assists.

“We played a good match, overall,” said . “Everyone got some time and did a good job working together. Grace (Moll) and Taylor (Wilcox) are really swinging well and Alissa (Hudson) took some nice swings. Our service receive was really good and we were able to attack almost every ball.”

Wilcox and Hudson have been further developing their skills at the net and scored two kills each.
