Monday night, in a make-up game from last Thursday, the Moulton boys seventh and eighth grade basketball teams went to Findlay to play Okaw Valley, winning both games in a fight to the finish.

The Moulton seventh graders came through with a one-point win, 27-26 and the eighth graders escaped with a 44-41 victory. Dylan Sarver was the game-saver with a late game burst of six points and two from A.J. Howell, which gave Moulton sevenths the win. Sarver was also the leading scorer in the match with 15. Cody Bly was also instrumental in the win putting in eight points. Seth Calhoun was top gun for Okaw with 10.

In the seventh grade game, things looked dismal for the Rams in the first period. Dylan Sarver was the lone ranger, scoring the only bucket for the Rams, while the Timberwolves bombed the bottom out with 12 points, including two treys, one from Cody Robinson and another by Alex Rothrock. Cody Bly hit two buckets for the T’Wolves and Tim Suddarth added a hoop.

But the seventh grade Rams began to gain momentum as the T’Wolves were losing it. In the second period, Moulton ignited for eight points from two-pointers by Drake Martz, Cody Langan, A.J. Howell and Clayton Baker. Okaw slipped to a four-point performance with hits from Bly and Seth Calhoun, but still enjoyed a 16-10 lead at half time.

In the third period, the momentum continued to swing the Rams’ way. Isaac Uphoff found the range on a longball and Cody Langan hit double buckets and two from the line. Baker chipped in a free throw for nine. Okaw was only able to put two points on the board: Two free throws from Calhoun, which game Moulton a chance to make up lost ground in the first period.

Going into the fourth period, Moulton had made their way to a 19-18 lead. In the fourth period, the two teams were nip and tuck. Seth Calhoun rose to the occasion for the Timberwolves, popping triple two’s. Bly added a bucket to give Okaw an eight-point effort.

But that single point advantage the sevenths carried from the third period (remember 19-18?) came in handy as the Rams also hit for eight, with Dylan Sarver stepping up with triple doubles and help from basket by Howell. Eight is enough, and the Rams sevenths win by one, 27-26.

The Rams ran off a 17-10 first period lead with Boarman going 6-7 from the line plus a basket, and Cloe being the master of disaster with four two-shots in tough territory. The Rams were able to put up 17 points in their first period effort to the Wolves 10 from two longballs from long ranger Ethan Foster and double twos from Jessie Newton.
