The Shelbyville Rams (6-15), the #6 seed in the CIC Tourney, defeated Clinton (5-18, 1-3), the #7 seed in the consolation semifinal on Monday, 49-30.

Shelbyville will now play Warrensburg (#5-seed) in the consolation final (5th place) on Wednesday at Central A&M.

In a celebration of Shelbyville shooting, the 1st quarter was all Rams with an 18-2 run. Braden Nichols started the game stroking a pair of triples, then a deuce for 8 of his game-high 19 points.

Kade Kull drove, made the shot and was fouled. He made the free throws for the 3-point play. Ethan Clark knocked down a trey and followed with a deuce. Payton Bryant scored, while all Clinton could manage was a bucket by Zeke Hickman.

A Ram 16-point cushion is a rare place to operate from. The Rams let Clinton up and the Maroons won the 2nd frame, 10-9. Bryant scored twice for Shelby and Nichols dialed in from long distance. Kull scored, but couldn’t convert the 3-point play at the line.

Hickman dropped a deuce and a trey for Clinton. Tyrese Petty got to the line, but only made 1-of-4. He did make a 2-pointer and Garrett Wayne scored. They cut the lead, but were still down by 15 at the half, 27-12.

Shelbyville avoided a meltdown in the 3rd and extended their lead a bit. Kull took over with a pair of twos and 1-of-2 at the line. Nichols made 1-of-2 foul shots, then converted an old-fashioned 3. Clark stroke his second triple of the game for a 12-8 run.

Hickman scored a bucket in the 3rd, while Ty Brennan completed a 3-point play. Skyler Williamson made 1-of-2 foul shots, then a 2-pointer, to leave Clinton behind by 19 points going to the final frame, 39-20.

The Rams held off the Maroon move in the 4th, playing them even to the final buzzer, 10-10, for the win.

Willamson woke up late with a deuce and a trey, Wayne scored again and so did Hickman. Petty split a pair at the line. It wasn’t enough to erase their 19-point deficit.

The Rams shot a lot of free throws in the 4th. Kull missed a pair, but then made the only Ram basket of the 4th, and the accompanying free throw for a 3-point play.

Max Beyers was fouled and made two foul shots. Clark was fouled and made 1-of-2 free throws. Nichols was fouled twice and made all four free throws, icing the near, 20-point Ram win.

Nichols scored 5 times and drew five trips to the foul line. He had a pair of deuces and a trey hat trick. He also sank 6-of-8 at the line (75%).

Kull followed with 13 points, also scoring five times from the floor. He was 3-of-6 at the stripe. Clark stepped up and just missed double figures, scoring 9 points on a pair of treys, a deuce and 1-of-2 foul shooting.

Hickman led Clinton with a consistent 11 points, scoring in every quarter. He had five scores with one 3. Williamson had 8 points in the 2nd half, with one 3.

Shelbyville made 16 baskets, five from the arc for 37 points from the floor. Clinton made 12 buckets, 2 from distance for 26 points from the field. Shelby made 12-of-18 (67%) at the line and Clinton made just 4-of-14 (28.5%).
