Like dead men walking the Okaw Valley girls basketball team (10-19) had to face Tri-County (23-5) on Monday. As predicted, Tri-County won, 60-14.
Despite the blowout, Tri-County started out slow. After 8:00, the Titans were up by just 3 points, 9-6. Mia Harris opened up with a deuce and a trey. Kate Jeffers added 1-of-2 free throws.
Tri-County also got a deuce and a trey from Taylor Buray. Lillie Cox made two free throws. and Bella Dudley had a two.
After a low-key 1st, the Titans exploded for a 29-4 run. Avery Bruns and Bailey Bennett had solo two, but that was it. Tri-County got six scores from Buray for 12 points.
They got two twos and a triple from Dudley for 7 points. Kaylin Williams dropped a deuce and a trey. Melia Eskew had a bucket and a free throws. Cailynne Phillips scored for the 28-point lead at the half, 38-10.
The full force of the Titans was out of the bottle and it continued in the 3rd period with an unnecessarily brutal, 20-2 run. The only Okaw score in the 3rd was a two from Shyanne Harding.
Both Buray and Eskew scored twice for Tri-County. Caroline Smith hit a 3. Phillips and Cox made solo twos. Dudley and Grace Hopped made solo buckets. Williams made a free throws for the 46-point lead, 58-12.
The massacre was over. In the final 8:00, both teams managed just 4 points. Izzy Carroll made two free throws for the Titans. Reagan Reedy made a bucket for Okaw.
Tri-County scored 25 times with four 3s for 54 points from the floor. Okaw made just 6 baskets with one trey for 13 points. Tri-County made 6-of-11 from the line, while Okaw was just 1-of-4 at the line.
Mia Harris led Okaw with 5 points on two buckets in the 1st quarter. Buray led all scorers with 21 points on 10 baskets (1-3). Dudley followed with 11 points on 5 scores (1-3), all from the floor.
Okaw Valley (10-19, 3-5 LPC) hosts Decatur LSA in the regular season finale, Thursday, varsity start is at 6 p.m.
