The Okaw Valley Timberwolves volleyball team boasted the best record in the Shelby Area as of Tuesday, after being tested by Cowden-Herrick on Monday, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, and beating Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond in straight sets, 25-21, 25-16.
The undefeated T’Wolves were 5-0 after Tuesday and the undefeated Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets, who were off Tuesday, were 3-0.
The CHBC Bobcats were looking to knock off the Timberwolves on Monday. They came within 3 point sin game 1, beat Okaw by two in the 2nd set, but slipped by 6 points in the decisive 3rd set. Okaw Valley out-scored CHBC, 73 to 66 in the marathon.
Okaw Valley swung for 24 kills, had 4 blocks and served up 7 aces for 35 attack points out of 73 total (46%). CHBC hit 24 kills with 1 block and served 12 aces, which was key to their challenge. CHBC recorded 37 attack points out of 66 points (56%).
Okaw had 21 assists towards the 24 kills, 87.5% from the offensive set. CHBC had 15 assists for their 24 kills (62.5%). Okaw scooped 37 digs. CHBC didn’t report their defense.
Paige Coleman stepped up as the Okaw ledaer at the net with 10 kills and 2 blocks. She added 2 aces for 14 attack points. Kate Jeffers had 7 kills, 1 block ans 2 aces for 10 attack points.
CHBC was led at the net by Tatyana Duckwitz. She had 6 kills and a block for7 attack points. Lauren Wojcik had 5 kills and served a team-high 6 aces for 11 attack points. Zaryah Smith was also key. She had 3 kills and 4 aces for 7 attack points.
CHBC setter Kylee Bertin hit 4 kills with 2 aces and dished 8 of the assists. She had 6 attack points and was part of 14 points. The other setter, Abby Sloan, hit 3 kills and dished 7 assists to be part of 10 scores.
Grace Bunfill directed the Okaw offense with a match-high 21 assists. She added a kill and 2 aces to be part of 24 attack points.
The Okaw defense was balanced. Bunfill scooped 10 digs, libero April Decesaro had 9, and Coleman had 9.

Arthur competed in the first set, losing by 4 points, but couldn’t keep pace in the 2nd set, losing by 9. They were out-scored 50 to 37. Okaw Valley was on the attack all night. They had 27 kills, 9 blocks, and 2 aces for 38 attack points out of 50 (76%).
Kate Jeffers was off the chain. The T’Wolves’ middle hitter scored 14 kills and rose for 6 blocks in a 2-game set, to record 20 attack points, all net points. Solo setter Grace Bunfill dished 21 assists towards the 27 kills, getting 77% of the kills from the offensive set. The other 6 kills were free balls and 1-timers.
Macie Fleshner stepped up as the 2nd most prolific killer with 7 kills. Paige Coleman had 4 and added two blocks for 6 net points. Karson park served up the only two Okaw aces.
Okaw only needed 25 digs to defend against Arthur. Libero April Decesaro led the defense with 9 digs. The rest of the defense was balanced. Bunfill, Coleman ans Fleshner had 5 each.
