Okaw Valley girls basketball has battled Blue Ridge this season, winning and losing. On Monday they smacked back, winning the rubber game, 42-37.

 In this series, the team that gets the most runs gets the win. At the Meridian Christmas Tournament, Okaw Valley beat Blue Ridge by 9 on the strength of a late, 19-3, run, 44-35, in the semifinal. On Friday in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tourney, Blue Ridge flipped the script and beat Okaw Valley by 7, because of two runs in the middle of the game and held off a late run by the T'Wolves, 42-35.

On Monday, in the second of back-to-back games, Okaw Valley swung the pendulum back and beat Blue Ridge in Farmer City by 5, with two late runs, after an initial run by the Knights, 42-35.

The game started out, all Blue Ridge, with an 18-9 run in the 1st quarter. All six Knights scored, doubling-up the three T'Wolves that scored.

Meah Carter scored twice and Jaclyn Pearl scored twice. Farrah Michaels scored and then made two foul shots. Jenna Mozingo, Katie Bowns, and Savannah Stiger has solo twos.

Bailey Bennett carried the T'Wolves early. She scored three times for six points. Shyanne Harding had a bucket and Kate Jeffers was fouled and made two free throws.

After the initial Blue Ridge blitz, Okaw Valley started to dig out from the rubble. The 2nd period was defensive and Okaw took it 6-4. Mia Harris got going and scored twice. Reagan Reed made a deuce. Pearl scored all four Blue Ridge points on a basket and two free throws. Okaw trailed by 7 at the half, 22-15.

The 3nd half would belong to the T'Wolves. The Pack attack in the 3rd with a 13-8 run. Bennett scored twice and Harding scored, then got to the line for two foul shots. Lexi Bartimus uncorked a 3-pointer and Miaya Lehman scored.

Ridge got to the line in the 3rd, but was mitigated by the Pack. Mozingo had a bucket and made 2 free throws. Bowns had a two and made 1-of-2 free throws. Michaels got to the line and made 1-of-2. After trailing by 9 early, Okaw was within two to start the final frame, 30-28.

Bowns led Blue Ridge late with two buckets and 1-of-2 at the stripe. Pearl scored, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Okaw Valley matched Blue Ridge scoring from the floor in crunch time, but the T'Wolves made all 8 of their free throws to scoot past the Knights for the win.

Harris had a bucket and Harding scored twice. Harding also made both of her foul shots. Bennett was fouled and made both of her foul shots. Jeffers was fouled twice and was 4-for-4 at the line, posting a 14-7 winning run.

Blue Ridge made 14 field goals in the game with zero 3s for 28 points. Okaw Valley made 15 buckets with one 3 for 31 points. Blue Ridge shot 13 free throws and made 9 (69%). Okaw Valley shot 12 free throws and made 11 (91%). In the previous two games against Blue Ridge, Okaw Valley was just 13-of-22 at the line (59%).

The extra 3-pointer and the extra two free throws were the margin of victory for Okaw Valley. 

Seven T'Wolves scored, but it was the youth movement that led Okaw Valley to this win. Freshmen scored 17 points and sophomores scored 18 points for 35 of their 42 points (83%).

Freshman Bailey Bennett and sophomore Shyanne Harding scored 12 points, each. Harding scored four times and was 4-of-4 at the line. Bennett scored 5 times and was 2-of-2 at the stripe. Sophomore Mia Harris scored six points. 

Carter was limited in this game. She had 15 in the Blue Ridge win on Friday. She had 4 in this game along with 4 fouls. Pearl and Bowns led BR with 10 points each.  

Okaw Valley girls improve to 9-18 (2-4 LPC). They host Cerro Gordo/Bement on Thursday.
