The Central A&M girls basketball team (22-9) notched a 20 win this season and finished as the Arthur 1A Regional Champion and a Casey 1A Sectional semifinalist.
A&M’s senior post presence, Channing Reed finished with 1114 career points (6th in school history) and 892 career rebounds (3rd in school history). She was 3rd team IBCA All State for the 2nd year in a row. She was also unanimous first team all conference in the CIC.
Reed scored 373 points this season and grabbed 252 boards. She averaged 13.3 points and .9 rebounds per game for almost a double-double average. She shot a team-high 50.5% from the floor and 52.4% from in close. She also was the most accurate 3-point shooter, making 29.2%. She shot 68.4% from the line
The senior twins, MiKayla Denton (2nd Team All Conference) and McKenna Denton (Honorable Mention All Conference), finished with 373 (11.3 ppg) and 287 points (8.7 ppg), respectively. They both played a team-high 26 minutes per game, along with Hannah Schinzler.
MiKayla pushed the offense shooting a team-high 406 shots, making 149 of them (36.8%). She finished with 33 triples at 25.8%. She dished 73 assists with a team-high 83 steals (156 A/S) against 93 turnovers. The assist/steal to turnovers ratio was a positive 5:3 (+1.6)
McKenna shot lights out, making 42.3% from the field and 48.4% inside the arc (106/221), second on the team only to Reed. She made 63 free throws (56.8%), 2nd to Reed. McKenna was 2nd on the team in rebounds (165). MiKayla had 139 boards.
Her assist to turnover ratio was almost even 2.4 to 2.5 pg, 80 to 83. She had 2.2 steals per game, 2nd to MiKayla. Her assist/steal to turnover ratio was 152 to 83 (+2.7 pg).
Hannah Schinzler had 276 points, making 40 treys (28.8%) and Lanie Sams had 152 points, 111 points from 37 treys (73%). MiKayla Denton made 33 triples (25.8%). Schinzler made 53 free throws with a team-high percentage (75%).
The Raiders are losing six seniors from this year’s team, so next year may see some rebuilding. Julia Braundmeier, Emma Beck and Victoria Billups will be seniors next year.
