Central A&M girls lost the Macon County semifinal game on Thursday, but they rebounded on Saturday, routing Maroa (8-9) for 3rd place, 61-33.
A&M carried little about Maroa scoring early. They ran ahead of the Trojans in the 1st period, 20-12. Channing Reed scored three times. Mikayla Denton launched a trey and a deuce. McKenna Denton launched a deuce and a trey. Hannah Schinzler scored twice.
Maroa also shot 3s. Young made two treys and Robinson had a 3 and a 2. Vandevoorde made 1-of-4 foul shots to leave the Trojans down 8 after one.
In the 2nd, Maroa almost managed to match A&M, 14-12. Young had another 3. Harjung made a two and 1-of-2 foul shots. Mitchell made a two and 1-of-2 foul shots. Voelker made two free throws and Vandevoorde 1-of-2.
A&M got 10 of their 14 from Reed. She scored twice from the floor, including a 3-point play. She scored two more times from the floor and made 1-of-2 free throws. McKenna Denton and Julia Braundmeier added solo twos for a 10-point half-time lead, 34-24.
The Raiders romped out of the break with a 20-4 run in the 3rd. Lanie Sams dialed up two treys. Schinzler sank one trey. Mikayla Denton scored twice and McKenna Denton had a two and 1-of-2 free throws. Erica Corzine and Reed added solo twos.
Maroa managed just one bucket from Adlaf and two free throws from Vandevoorde to fall behind by 26 points, 54-28.
The 4th period was anti-climactic, Both teams scored 12 points in 8:00. A&M took the final few, 7-5. Mikayla Denton scored twice and Braundmeier once. Emma Beck made 1-of-2 foul shots.
Robinson scored once more, Moody got on the board with two free throws. Adlaf made 1-of-2 free throws to fix the 28-point A&M win for 3rd place.
A&M had three players in double figures. Reed led with way with 18 points on 8 buckets and 2-of-3 at the line. Mikayla Denton made 13 points on six baskets (1-3). McKenna Denton made 10 points on 54 buckets (1-3) and a free throw.
Maroa had no one in double figures. Young led the Trojans with 9 points, all from the arc.
Central A&M (11-5) took 3rd place in The Macon County Tourney and have won 9-of- 11 ball games. They host Pawnee on Monday and St. Teresa on Thursday.
A&M scored 57 points from the floor, including 5 triples. Maroa scored just 22 points from the floor, including 4 treys. Maroa got to the line more and 11-of-18. A&M made just 4-of-8 free throws.
