The Moulton grade volleyball teams each had 2-game sweeps of Teutopolis on Thursday. Ram 7th won, 25-20, 25-5, and Ram 8th won, 25-16, 25-23.
Shelby 7th was in a competitive game in the 1st set, but when they got the win, they began to roll. They finished off the Shoes with a 20-point blitz in the 2nd set. They doubled-up Teutopolis 50 to 25.
“We will play T’town our first game of regional,” said ram 7th coach Maggie Keown. “So, it was nice to see them. We did a great job serving and finding the holes in their defense. We need to play them this aggressively on Saturday, as well.”
Ram 7th had 11 aces, hit 18 kills and a block for 30 attack points. Maisie Kull led the way with 11 points and 4 aces, with 6 kills and a block for 11 attack points. Jaycee Brinkoetter also served 11 points with 4 aces and hit 4 kills for 8 attack points.
Brinkoetter and Mischa Beals dished 7 assists each of the 16 assist total. Shelby had 16 assists towards the 18 kills, 89% out of the offense. Four players were balanced in their defense. Brinkoetter, Marley Phelps, and Beals scooped 7 digs, each. Kull dug 6.

The 8th grade prime-time match was close early, but then Shelby got hot.
“It was a slow start, but eventually they found their groove in the 1st game,” said Ram 8th coach Meleah Brinkoetter.
Once the Rams got it going they won by almost double-digits, 25-16. Then came the 2nd game.
“We knew in the 2nd game we would have to do a better job at serving and communicating,” Coach Brinkoetter said. “We did do better, but our passing and defense fell apart in the beginning. We kept making unforced errors, which kept giving them points.”
Dru Clark led at the net with 6 kills and 2 blocks for 8 attack points. Amber Lewis had 6 kills.
Kinzee Musser and Caroline White also scored well for the Rams with 11 service points and an ace, 5 kills and a block for 7 attack points. White served 8 points with 3 aces, 2 kills and a block for 6 attack points. She and Ella Storm also led the defense with 6 digs, each.
“Dru Clark and Amber Lewis did a great job at the net, which helped us a lot. Elyse Lape (2 kills) also did a great job coming in off the bench. Overall, I’m proud of how my girls didn’t give up, when we were down by 5 points. They worked hard and fought for the win.”
