The young Ram boys track team, with a majority of underclassmen, earned a individual conference championship and individual all-conference honors as they placed 5th as a team at the 5th annual CIC Meet, on Tuesday.

"We finished 5th at conference, which is about where I expected," said Ram coach Kevin Kramer. "Very proud of the guys on how they competed. Like always, we are running very young kids compared to other schools. Our guys never backed down, just like they have never backed down this season."

The top Ram performance of the day came at the start of the track competition, featuring three sophomores and a freshman crowned as conference champions.

"We started the running events off in great fashion as our 3200 relay team came in first," Coach Kramer said. "We ran sophomore Will Miller, sophomore Jamie Friedman, freshman Will McClain and sophomore Obi Kaiser. The foursome ran a season best of 9:08.3 for the win. We were not even expected in the top five, so although it was a surprise to some it was not to me. I knew we were capable of this and they got it done."

Shelbyville also had some senior success in the field events.

"Before the running events, the Rams had a pretty good day in the field events, led by one of the Rams two seniors Harrison Wooters," Kramer said. "Harrison captured two 3rd place finishes with a personal best of 42' 6.5" in the shot put and a personal best of 121'2" in the discus. I was so happy for Harrison. He has worked hard over the last four years to get to where he is at. He deserves all the success he has achieved.

Wooters scored 12 points in the two events, while teammate junior Grant Mose also got 4 points in the shot put with a 5th place finish.

"Trentin Minnis showed how much he has improved in the jumps this year with two field event places," Kramer said. "Trentin 5'6" for fifth place (4 pts) and a personal best of 17' 6" in the long jump for 8th place and a point. Freshman Max Beyers finished the scoring off in the field events (6 pts) for the Rams with a 3rd place finish in the pole vault at 11 feet."

Sophomore Dalton Hoadley pulled in a couple of 3rd place finishes in the 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles for another 12 Ram points, plus 1.5 points in two relays, 13.5 total.

"Dalton has been our top scorer all year and continued that today," Coach Kramer said. "Dalton was also part of the 5th place 1600 relay and 7th place 400 relay. Relay members were freshman Carson Lockart, freshman James Mills and sophomore Obi Kasier in the 1600 relay and Mills, Lockart and junior Braydon Smith in the 400 relay. Garrett Wade also had a big personal best of 45.79 to win his heat and finish 5th overall (4 pts) in the 300 hurdles. Just an outstanding run."

The Rams got two places and 9 points in the 3200 run.

"Junior Cody Rohdemann ran his best time of the season of 10:58 to finish 3rd (6 pts) and Zach Hood ran a 11:34 just off his best to finish in 6th (3 pts)," Kramer said.

The Rams followed that with two places in the 1600 run, as the Ram captain and other senior, Luke brown finished in 5th (4 pts) just behind freshman Will McClain who captured 4th (5 pts). Will Miller finished in 7th for the Rams in the 800 after leading the 3200 relay to victory.

"I have really had a lot of fun this year with these young guys," Coach Kramer said. "I look forward to watching them in the future, as they get better. Their best days are ahead of them."

The Rams are next in action on Saturday, as they host the 28-team Shelbyville Open.
