Shelbyville tennis dispatched with Mattoon JV in a shutout on Monday, 9-0, and all but shut out Decatur Eisenhower the next day, winning, 8-1.

Shelbyviklle routed Mattoon JV in 4 of the 6 singles matches and one of the doubles matches. Despite the rams winning all the singles matches, there were a couple where Mattoon competed. Mattoon challenged the #1 and #2 Ram doubles teams, but couldn’t get over the hump.

The Rams Layla Gill played #1 singles for Shelby and beat Annalise Overmeyer, 6-0, 6-0. Shelby’s Kat Martin back from injury played Laura Stream in #6 singles and also won, 6-0, 6-0. Hannah Hick #2 singles and Lauren Williams #5 single won handily. Hicks beat Kendall Harmison, 6-2, 6-0, and Williams beat Lanie Butler, 6-1, 6-1.

In #1 doubles Hicks and Alana Geerhad to fight to beat Overmeyer and Harmison, 8-6. Likewise, Gill and Williams had to prevail in #2 doubles against Hampton and Shumway, 8-6. Trinity Turner and and Camryn Durbin stepped into #3 doubles and handled Butler and Stream easily, 8-1.

Tuesday was another team rout by the Rams. They won 5 of the 6 singles matches by shutouts, 8-0. Freshman Aleah Wallis tried her hand at #3 singles and took a loss. In doubles the Rams won #1 and #2 doubles by shutouts, 8-0. #3 doubles gave up a few games, but still won lopsided, 8-3. After the two blowouts, Mt. Zion will be stiffer competition.

Shelbyville tennis was to play at Mt. Zion on Thursday, then at the Mattoon Invite on Saturday. They travel to Decatur MacArthur on Monday then return home Tuesday to host Springfield Lanphier.
