Shelbyville tennis has suffered three straight dual losses as of Wednesday night. They lost to Charleston on Wednesday, 2-7. They lost to Paris 1-8 on Tuesday. They lost last Thursday to Maroa, 3-6.

Against Charleston, only junior Layla Gill (#2 singles) and sophomore Alan Geer (#4 singles) notched wins. All the other matches were solid Charleston wins. Gill doubled up Melah Hackett, 8-4. Geer almost repeated that feat, beating Rainer Fuller-Moore, 8-5.

Against Paris, the only ram to emerge with a win was Gill (#2 singles). She doubled-up sophomore Kendall Matthews, 8-4. Hannah Hicks and Gill, the #1 Shelby doubles team, just got edged, 11-9.

Against Maroa, Shelby came closer, losing just 6-3. Shelby lost a singles tie-break and won a doubles tie-break in the competitive match. Gill and Hicks dropped down to pick up some wins. Gill played #3 singles and beat senior Riya Parekh with authority, 6-3, 6-2. Hicks played #4 singles and defeated junior Neha Bashir soundly, 6-1, 6-0. Alan Geer lost #5 singles to Madison Wang in a tie-break, 5-7, 6-3 (1-7). Hicks and Gill won their #2 doubles match against Tuan and Madison Wang, 9-8 in a match tie-break (10-4).

In this tough stretch, junior Layla Gill was 3-0 in singles and 1-2 in doubles with senior teammate Hannah Hicks. Hicks, the #1 Ram was 1-2 in doubles. Alana Geer was the only other Ram to log a win in #4 singles.

Shelbyville plays at Teutopolis on Thursday, then hosts Mattoon on Monday at 4 p.m.
