Shelbyville Moulton Ram 7th and 8th grade girls basketball are both doubling down. The 7th is doubling down their losing streak and the 8th is doubling down on wins.
Last week, Shelby 7th got blasted by Sullivan, 30-6, on Monday, then lost a heart-breaker to St. Pat's on Tuesday, 28-27. Shelby 8th blew out Sullivan, 27-9, then doubled down by beating St. Pat's, 43-25.
Shelby 7th missed a gear right out of the gate at Sullivan last week and fell behind 8-0. Mirar scored three times for Sullivan and Mercer once.
In the 2nd quarter, Sullivan go solo buckets from Booher and Ellis, while Shelby got on the board, kinda. Adison Musser made 1-of-2 foul shots and a two and Marley Phelps made a two. Kenzie Jones missed both her free throws. Shelby trailed by 7 at the break, 12-5.
Sullivan charged out again in the 3rd for a 9-2 run. Ellis scored twice and Miller twice. Mirar split a pair of free throws. Kylee McDonald made 1-of-2 foul shots for Shelby. They trailed by 15 going to the 4th, 21-6.
Shelby missed two free throws in the 4th and that was as close as they would get to scoring again. Meanwhile, Miller scored 5 more points for the Redskins, two buckets and 1-of-2 free throws. Penberthy scored twice for the 24-point win.
Miller led all scorers with 9 points, followed by Mirar with 7 points and Ellis with 6 points.
Sullivan 30, Shelbyville 6

Shelby 8th had a big enough lead in the 4th, they didn't bother to score and still won by 18 points.
Shelby opened with an 8-2 run. Four Rams had solo scores: Kinzee Musser, Millie Clark, Dru Clark, and Gabby Golding. Harden scored a two for Sully to trail by 6.
Shelby doubled down with an 8-4 run in the 2nd. Musser scored twice for Shelby and Caroline White and Golding had solo twos. 'Skins Dyer and Norton had solo buckets and were down, by 10 at the half, 16-6.
The 3rd was a nightmare for the Redskins being hit with an 11-1 run. Batman made 1-of-2 foul shots. The Rams got 5 points from Musser on two baskets and 1-of-3 free throws. Both Clarks counted coup with a two and White scored once for a 20-point lead as the fat lady began to sing, 27-7.
In the snoozer 4th, Sullivan out-scored Shelby, 2-0, on a basket by Harden. Shelby booked the 18-point win. They were led by Kinzee Musser with 11 points, including 5 scores. Four other Rams scored four points each.
Both teams were just 1-of-7 at the line. Shelby made 13 baskets and Sullivan just 4.
Shelbyville 27, Sullivan 9

At home against St. Pat's the Ram 7th played much better, but with the same result.
It was a back-and-forth game at times and Shelby almost back-and-forth'd it for a win, almost. Shelby led by 3 after the first 6:00. Adi Musser scored twice and Alex Jokisch once. St. Pat's got a two from Hackler and a free throw from Coleman to trail 6-3.
St. Pat's exploded in the 2nd for a 15-0 run. Hackler scored three times, Coleman scored twice and made a free throw. Kinsey scored twice and St. Pat's claimed 12-point lead at the break, 18-6.
Shelby tried to dig out of the hole in the 3rd with a 10-3 run. Kinzie Jones joined the party with two scores. Jaycee Brinkoetter got on the board with a bucket, and Musser scored once. St. Pat got a two and a free throw from Hackler, but maintained a 5-point lead, 21-16.
Down the stretch, Shelby out-scored St. Part's again, 11-7. Coleman scored for Pana. McFarland had a two and a free throw and Kinsey made a two. That gave them 28 points.
Kenzie Jones came alive and scored four baskets in crunch time. Musser scored and Jokisch made 1-of-3 free throws. That gave them 27 points and a 1-point, come-from-behind loss.
Jones finished with a game-high 12 points, all in the 2nd half and Musser had 8. Hackler had 11 points for St. Pat's and Coleman 8.
Both teams finished with 12 field goals. Shelby was 3-of-7 at the line and St. Pat's was just 4 of 21 for the 1-point win.

Shelby 8th put up 43 points against St. Pat's, scoring in double-digits in 3 of 4 quarters. They opened with an 11-2 run.
Dru Clark, who finished with 20 points, scored three times. Kinzee Musser scored and Gabby Golding had a two and a free throw. St. Pat got a bucket from Kuhn, trailing by 9.
In the 2nd, St. Pat's refused to give up that much ground again. Shelby took the period by just 2 points, 11-9. Dru Clark scored two more times, but Musser led Shelby with a deuce and a trey for 5 points.
Ayda Coleman scored two deuces, then a trey, then another two for all 9 St. Pat points in the quarter. Shelby was up by 10 at the break, 21-11.
The 3rd period was another shootout that Shelby won by just 3 points, 15-12. Dru Clark scored four times for 8 points. Musser had another trey and a deuce for 5 points. Kenzie Jones made 2-of-2 at the line.
Coleman scored three more times (might wanna guard her) and got to the line, making 2-of-4 for 8 points. Kinsey and Kuhn had solo buckets to keep the game from a runaway. St. Pat's trailed by 14 going down the stretch, 37-23.
In the final frame, Shelby coasted to the win on a 6-2 run. Marley Phelps scored twice and Dru Clark once more for good measure. St. Pat go a 2 from Kinsey and that was it, c'est tu.
Despite a valiant 2nd and 3rd period, by St. Pat Shelby 8th still won by 18. Dru Clark had 20 points on 10 buckets and Musser followed with 12 points on 3 twos and 2 threes.
7th grader Ayda Coleman led St. Pat with 17 points. She had 8 points in the prelim to give her 25 points on the night.
