Shelbyville Moulton 7th grade boys basketball won their first two games of the Annual Pana 7th Grade Tournament on Saturday and Monday to open their season. Now they will play for the championship. Shelby beat Hillsboro, 42-26, then beat Central A&M, 38-23.

The Rams were led by Mason Jones in both wins. He scored a game-high 20 against Hillsboro and a game-high 15 against A&M.

The Rams broke out after the half in the first game to get the cushion for the win. They broke out from the opening tip in the 2nd game to establish a lead for the win.

Shelby took an 11-9 lead at the end of the 1st against Hillsboro. Brady Bohem shook free for 3 buckets  and Jones sank a trey and then a deuce. Three Toppers scored. They had a trey from Riggs, two deuces from Summers and one from Lowe to keep the game close.

The 2nd frame, both teams got to the line. Shelby had a triple from Jones and from Drew Nohren. But Shelby missed 10 free throws in 6:00. Riggs made a trey and a deuce, but also missed 5 free throws. Walker was 1-of-2. Shelby won the 8-6 period and led by 4 at the half, 19-15.

The watershed came in the 3rd. Shelby went on a 17-2 run, ouch. Jones hit a pair of twos and then back-to-back 3s for 10 points in the quarter. Nohren nailed his second 3 and Brady and Brody Boehm had a bucket each. Lowe had the only Topper two to trail by 19 points heading into the 4th, 36-17.

The Rams took their foot of the gas in the final frame and Hillsboro won the superfluous period, 9-6. Riggs made a pair of triples and Harston had a two. Lowe split a pair at the line.

Jones, Brady Boehm and Carter Anderson made solo two for Shelby to cap the season-opening, 16-point win.

Brady Boehm followed Jones with 8 points, all from the floor. Nohren had 6, both from the arc.

On Monday, Jones and Stiner tag-teamed A&M to lead Shelby to a 2-0 start. Jones led with 8 points in the 1st. Stiner scored 9 points in the middle quarters. Jones came back and scored 7 in the 4th. 

The Rams opened with a 12-3 run. Jones opened his scoring with two threes, then a two for 8 of their 12 points. Brady Boehm had a bucket and 1-of-2 free throws early. Stiner split a pair at the line. A&M got a lone 3 from Plain, to trail by 9.

A&M pushed back in the 2nd with an 11-6 run. Damery scored from the floor and made two free throws. Sams had a deuce and Hauching made 3-of-4 foul shots. Stiner and Brody Boehm had solo twos, while Brody Hancock and Brady Boehm both split a pair at the line. Jones did not score. Shelby was just up by 4 at the break, after the good start, 18-14.

Shelby re-established control in a defensive 3rd period, 7-4. Stiner scored all 7 points for the Rams. He made two buckets and sank 3-of-4 foul shots. A&M got single buckets from Delmendo and Hauching and trailed by 7 heading into the 4th, 25-18.

The game was still in the balance, but in the final 6:00, Shelby exploded for 13 points in a 13-5 run for a 15-point win going away. Jones hit a deuce, a trey, and a deuce for another 7 points to lead the 4th. Stiner added two scores and Hancock one. A&m got a trey from Sams and a two from Ferguson.
