Brady Boehm led Shelby 8th with 18 points (6/7 FTs) to knock off St. Anthony on Thursday, 35-32.

On Thursday night the Shelbyville Moulton 8th grade basketball team went to St. Anthony and stole their thunder. The Rams shut St. Anthony down in the 3rd period and held on for the upset 35-32.

“This was a big win, against a team that got 4th in state last year,” said Ram coach Roger Jones.

Shelbyville announced their intentions in the 1st period, when they capped the quarter with a 2-point lead in the opponents own gym. St. Anthony took exception and put on a run in the 2nd, to take a 3-point lead at the break.

The Rams shut down st. Anthony in the 3rd and reclaimed a 6-point lead heading into crunch time. St. Anthony responded, but fell short of a comeback and the Rams claimed the pride.

It was a battle in the first 6:00. Brady Boehm scored three times for the rams. Logan Stiner scored and mason Jones scored. Tucker Foil scored. Adams scored twice for St. Anthony. Roepke scored twice. Ludwig scored once, leaving them 2-point down, 12-10.

In the 2nd, Adams cashed in a 3 and a 2. Ludwig made a deuce and 1-of-2 foul shots. Westendorf and Frisbie had solo twos in the 12-7 run. Jones buried a Ram 3, but Drew Nohren and Brody Hancock had solo twos as the rams fell behind by 3 at the break, 22-19.

Out of the locker room the Rams were resolved. They went on an 11-2 run. Brady Boehm scored 9 of their 11 points. He was fouled and made two free throws. He scored from the floor.

St. Anthony’s lone score was from Westendorf, as they went from up 3 points, to down by 6 points, 30-24. With the game on the line, St. Anthony scored eight points. Roepke had all eight points on a deuce and two long range bombs.

That would have erased the Ram lead, but the Rams also scored with the game on the line. Brady Boehm converted a 3-point play at the line. Logan Stiner scored a deuce. Shelby held off St. Anthony and won by 3, 35-32.

Shelby had 29 points from the floor with one trey. St. Anthony had 31 points from the floor with 3 treys. However, St. Anthony was just 1-of-4 at the line. Shelby was 6-of-8, a 5-point edge in a 3-point win.
