Shelbyville football has one last chance to become playoff eligible this season and it all comes down to a home Senior Night showdown with St. Teresa on Friday.

If the Rams don’t upset St. Teresa it will be senior quarterback Kentrell Beck’s final Ram football game. Beck begins the night with 869 yards rushing with 18 TDs and 1075 yards passing for 6 TDs, giving him 1944 all-purpose yards and 24 TDs.

Beck’s #1 receiver is sophomore tailback Rope Hatfield. Hatfield has 514 receiving yards with 2 TDs. Hatfield has 396 yards rushing with 5 TDs. He has 910 all-purpose yards and 6 TDs.

Shelbyville fell just 6 points shy of beating Tuscola last week in Tuscola, 54-48. That would have given Shelby 5 wins and made them playoff eligible. St. Teresa is supposed to be a bigger hill to climb than Tuscola.

St. Teresa is 7-1, 5-1 in the conference. Their only loss was to Central A&M, 28-26. St. Teresa defense has only allowed 53 points in 8 games (6.6 ppg) and A&M had over half of those points. The other 7 opponents averaged 3.57 ppg.

St. T beat Downs, 41-0. Varna forfeited, 1-0. St. T beat Meridian, 56-7. They beat Tuscola, 28-12. They beat Clinton, 48-0. They beat Sullivan, 56-6. They beat Warrensburg 49-0. They have 3 shutouts, defensively.

With Shelbyville quarterback Kentrell Beck’s speed and ability to pass on the run, the Rams on paper have a chance to score on the Bulldogs. They could score once or twice, maybe even 3 times, given the funny shape of the football.

The key will be the Ram defense. They couldn’t stop Central A&M from scoring 55 points. They couldn’t stop Tuscola from scoring 54 points. St. Teresa’s offense is averaging 42.5 points per game, not counting their forfeit win.

The Rams #1 tackler is senior linebacker Josh Agin (5-9, 155 lbs). Agin has 68 tackles (56 solo) with 4 for loss (-22 yds). Hatfield has 54 tackles (36 solo) 1 for loss.

Karson Johnson has 34 tackles (20 solo), 8 for loss for -51 yards. Bryce Matthews has 31 tackles (25 solo), 11 for loss for -41 yards. Thirteen Rams have 42 tackles for loss this season, totaling 207 yards. Shelby has two interceptions and 5 fumble recoveries.

A&M held St. T to 26 points. Tuscola held them to 28 points. On paper, the Rams might hold St. T to 3 or 4 scores, if the Rams force a couple of St. Teresa turnovers. So, Shelby still needs to score 4 times to win, even if one is a field goal.

Chord Miller (5-11, 145 lb junior) has completed 44 of 71 passes for 907 yards and 16 touchdowns (3 INTs). Jack Hogan has completed 19 of 35 for 312 yards and 6 TDs.

Denim Cook (5’8, 205 lb sophomore) has rushed 132 times for 1232 yards, averaging 176 yards per game. with 15 touchdowns. He averages 9.3 yards per carry. He has 1363 all purpose yards with 17 TDs. He averages 194.7 all-purpose yards per game, 9.8 yards every time he touches the ball.

Senior receiver Jacob Bryles has 14 catches for 433 yards and 13 TDs. Senior Joey Staab (5’11, 175) has 15 catches for 234 yards. Senior Michael Less (6-3, 205) has 17 catches for 297 yards.

Junior Anthony Cherry (6-3, 275) has 66 tackles (44 solo). Cook has 65 tackles (39 solo). Junior Zeke Lewis has 46 tackles (25 solo). St. T has 12 sacks in 7 games, 52 tackles for loss (7.5 per game), and has 14 interceptions.

Dominico Sassano (31 tackles) has 4 sacks. Jackson Arnold (21 tackles) has 3 sacks.
