Aaron Clark launches a 3-run homer in the opener.

Ridings Xamis Crews christened the Shelbyville Men’s Softball 2006 season with a opening game win over Shelby Electric Co-op, 11-6.

SEC had some missed opportunities early, just missed tying the game in the fifth on a home run ball that just went foul, then fell behind and couldn’t make up the difference. Two three-run homers by Zach Nichols and Aaron Clark of RXC extended their early 3-1 lead and kept SEC at arms length.

In the top of the third, RXC put some hits together. Mike Russell singled to start the inning, Garrett Seaton singled and Todd Seaton singled with one out. Tony Fox reached on an error and Aaron Clark singled, still with one out. Three runs came across playing small ball before a pair of fly balls ended their at bat, 3-0.

SEC got one run back when Dustin Theiss doubled and scored when Chad Hawkins reached on an error, 3-1 RXC. SEC held in the top of the fourth, then lost another golden opportunity to tie things up in their half.

Hagan, Bain and Danneberger all hit singles to load the bases. But, a strikeout and then a double play ended the rally with no runs. Clark scooped up a ground ball at third, tagged the base for a force out and then threw home to get Hagan.

RXC took advantage of that momentum in the fifth. Todd Seaton singled, but was forced out on a fielder’s choice by Fox. Clark singled and Nichols went deep to vault the RXC lead from 3-1 to 6-1. SEC got those three runs back in their half and were a foot and a half away from tying it up.

Don Burton drew a lead off walk, Jared McClain singled, Theiss singled and Hawkins singled, all with no outs to make it 6-3. With two on and one out Clint Hagan launched a ball deep to leftfield. It was just foul and would have tied the game had it been fair.

His next swing sent the ball to the wall in center and the runners at second and first had to hold in case it was caught. It hit the fence, but a good throw by Fox held the lead runner, Theiss, at third. Mark Bain hit into a fielder’s choice and scored Theiss to make it 6-4.

RXC exploded in the sixth for five runs to put the game out of reach. Mike Russell led off with a double, Whit Jiter singled, Todd Seaton singled and with two outs and two men on Clark went yard to make it 10-4. Nichols singled, Akinson singled and Nichols scored on an error, making it 11-4.

SEC got two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn’t enough. McClain led off with a single, but was forced out at second on a fielder’s choice by Hawkins. With two out,s Kevin Ross singled and Clint Hagan doubled to score Hawkins and Ross for the final tally.

Reynolds Auto Sales beat up on RXC in game two, 21-11, in seven innings. Nichols and Clark went deep again for RXC, but Kerry Campbell Trevor Storm and Jason Storm all hit homers for Reynolds.

In the nightcap, SEC rescued their pride after the game one loss, by totaling Reynolds Auto 16-2 in six innings. Reynolds had no home runs, while SEC had a 3-run homer from Hawkins and 3-run long ball from Bain. Bain and Theiss both went 4-for-4 in the nightcap.

Joe’s Pizza, still the team to beat this year, plays tonight at 6:30 p.m. against KSI and at 8:30 against Shelby Bowl. The Bowl and KSI play at 7:30.
