Nottingham kill

Nottingham blows a kill by the Taylorville defense.

The Lady Rams got a measure of revenge at the Newton Invitational on Saturday, beating Pana, but the Panthers still won the tournament with a 4-1 record.

Ann Nottingham led the Lady Rams at the net with 29 kills and two blocks, while Miranda Williams is working her way back into net play. She followed up a four block performance last week with a team-high three blocks on Saturday, to go with 21 kills, third best on the team, behind Nottingham and Katy Hankins (23).

Morgan McClain the Ram assist-leader dished out 66 assists, and got a breather from JV setter Meredith Compton who came in to assist the assist-leader with 16 sets for a kill. They accounted for 82 of the team’s 89 total assists in the tournament.

Pana had similar play out of their setters. Rachelle Harbert, their team leader, had 63 assists and got help from their upcoming freshman standout Michelle Day, who dished 19 assists. Those two accounted for 82 of the teams 84 assists.

Hankins led the Rams with 40 digs to go with her 23 kills and 43 points and two aces. Nottingham had 44 points and six aces, while Chelsey Sullivan had 42 points and six aces, as well.

Pana fields a libero, an optional player on defense, played by Nichole Wallace. She was the team leader in Digs for Pana, recording 39. Shelbyville shares their digs among all the players, of which Hankins was the team-leader this time.

The Lady Rams (8-6, 0-1 Okaw) play at Argenta-Oreana on Tuesday with freshman action starting at 5 p.m., the JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

The tournament set-up playing games to just 20 points instead of 25, and if necessary, third game went to 15 points. That effected the stat totals, making them slightly lower than a normal five-match tournament.
