Shelbyville Moulton volleyball swept Argenta on Thursday. Shelby 7th won, 25-9, 25-15, and Shelby 8th won, 25-14, 25-16.

The Ram underclassmen out-scored A-O by 26 points, 50 to 24. They won both sets by double-digits, the 1st set by 16 and the 2nd set by 10.

Shelby served 23 aces and hit 14 kills for 37 attack points out of 50 (74%). They got a monumental performance again at the line. This time, Jaycee Brinkoetter served 22 points with an outrageous 18 aces (82%). She served 44% of their points. Brinkoetter hit 5 kills to add to the 18 aces for 23 of the team’s 37 attack points (62%).

“The girls did a great job serving,” said Ram 7th coach Maggie Keown. “We were missing quite a few girls, but everyone stepped up and played their game. I’m hoping next week everyone will be back. I’m very proud of the girls’ consistency in this match.”

Maisie Kull served 7 points with 2 aces (29%) and Kylie Gordon served 5 points with 2 aces (40%). Ceccillia Lamb served 5 points with one ace, Mischa Beaks served 4 points with an ace.

Beals also dished a team-high 7 assists and swung for 3 kills, while Marley Phelps and Kull had 2 kills, each. Gordon and Kendi Dove added a kill, each.

The Rams needed only 15 digs to defend against A-O. Brinkoetter and Phelps led with 4 digs, each.

The 8th grade played consistent out-scoring Argenta by 20 points. They won the 1st set by 16 and the 2nd set by 14. The Ram upperclassmen served 13 aces, hit 15 kills and stuffed 3 blocks for 31 attack points out of 50 (62%).

Their attack points were balanced with one player having 7, two having 5, one having 4 and two more having 3 for 28 of the 31 attack points.

“We had a lot of obstacles to overcome with all the sickness that’s been going around. “said Ram 8th coach Meleah Brinkoetter. “So, I had to pull up a 7th grader, Jaycee Brinkoetter to help run the offense with Kinzee Musser.”

Jaycee Brinkoetter is the 7th grade scoring leader and a setter. Another 8th grade setter, Delaney Keown was out sick. Musser served 11 points with 4 aces, 3 kills, 3 assists and 2 digs with a team-high 7 attack points. Brinkoetter served 10 points with 3 aces, a team-high 4 assists, a block and 2 digs.

“Millie Clark has really been stepping it up the past couple of games, serving aggressive and working hard on defense,” Coach Brinkoetter said.

Clark served 12 points with 2 aces and 3 kills for 5 attack points. She led the defense with 6 digs. The rest of the defense was well engaged. They scooped 20 digs. Ella Storm got down for 5 digs and Caroline White 4.

“My captains, Ella (Storm) and Caroline (White) have been doing a good job communicating and being leaders on the floor,” Coach Brinkoetter said. “As long as they keep working hard and giving 100%, we will continue to win games.”

Middle hitter Dru Clark hit two kills and stuffed 2 blocks for 4 attack points. Amber Lewis served 3 aces and hit 2 kills for 5 attack points. Seven different Rams scored kills.

Shelby 7th (4-1, 3-0 Okaw) and Shelby 8th (5-0, 3-0 Okaw) played Monticello on Saturday. They play next on Tuesday, hosting Okaw Valley at 6 p.m.
