Shelbyville cross country took the Rochester Invitational by storm on Saturday, with the varsity boys winning, the varsity girls taking fourth, the Moulton boys taking first and all the Moulton girls’ four runners finishing in the top 50.

Shaun Nibbe led the Ram varsity boys against 10 full teams and 14 total schools represented in the high school meet. He took 7th place overall in a time of 17:01. That was expected, but Ryan Brown’s finish as the second Ram to cross was a step up. Brown finished in 10th place with a time of 17:36.

“I watched him in track last spring break 11 minutes,” said Ram coach Kevin Kramer. “Looks like he’s gonna step up in cross country. Him being in the Top 2 instead of the Top 3 is very important.”

Kramer was happy with the boys improvements in times over last year. Nibbe was slightly better, but the rest of the boys were at least 30 seconds better than last year.

Stanley Donahoo followed in 12th overall in 17:43.

Chris Mosley was 24th in 18:26.

“Chris Mosley took two minutes off his time and that is key for us,” said Kramer.

Kaleb Pruemer was the #5 Ram runner finishing 29th overall in 18:44, followed by Jordan Fox in 46th (19:49) and Nate Bly 55th (20:19).

On the girls’ side, the Lady Rams did surprisingly well, considering having two girls get injured on the rough course.

“Ranae Julius went all but the last 1/2 mile after stepping in a hole,” Kramer said. “Skylar Sparks also stepped in a hole during the sprint drills. Our girls team took 5 minutes of their time from last year. I was very pleased with that.”

Erin Yockey was the first Lady Ram to cross. She finished in 13th with a time of 21:28, followed by Kim Helmkamp in 22nd (22:33), Kathryn Looft in 24th (22:44), Katee Lira in 27th (23:14) Emily Karraker in 37th (24:35), Morgan Ladd 39th (24:43), and Randi Julius 42nd (25:03).

Moulton was just as dominating in their run at Rochester.

Clayton Baker finished second overall in a time of 11:15.9 to lead the boys to first place with 92 points. Nick Selby, Baker’s teammate was right on his heels in third place (11:15.9). Jason Bitzer was 11th (12:08.2) Zach Keown was 36th (13:36.9) and Zach England was 40th (13:46.5). Jonathan Eloe was 68th (14:40.9), Myles Foor 80th (14:59.2), Kyle Brown 85th (15:04.2), Aaron Thomas 95th (15:20.6), Seth Applegate 102nd (15:33.8), Blaine Buchanan 105th (15:40.6), Zach Karraker 135th (16:52.3), Pete Mosley 154th (18:42.1), 164th Dakota Pruemer (19:31.4)

The girls only had four runners not enough for a team score, but they finished high. Ali Hankins and Laura Jesse had personal bests.

Hankins and Jesse finished together. 9th and 10th overall. Hankins crossed first in 13:28.7 and Jesse in 13:29.1. Kayley Brown was 14th overall (13:56.7) and Hannah Fogleman was 44th overall (15:10.1.)
