The Shelbyville girls basketball team (3-2) won three of their first four games this season.
Shelby beat Okaw Valley on the road, 49-29, then beat Casey-Westfield on the road, 40-33. They lost to Camp Point Central in the Carlinville tourney on Friday, 49-34. They bounced back to beat Brussels on Saturday in Carlinville, 52-19.
The Casey game had wild swings. Shelby trailed 14-5, then an 11-7 run cut the deficit to 5 at the half, 21-16. Shelby had a 17-8 run in the 3rd and led by 4 going to the 4th, 33-29. They held on down the stretch 7-4 for the win.
Rams Holly Metzger and Carson Beyers had solo twos in the 1st and Mia Wade was 1-of-2 at the line, but Casey’s leader John scored twice and made two foul shots. Richardson scored 3 times and Wright once for a 9-point lead.
Casey took a breath and Shelby filled that space in the 2nd. Freshman Mia Wade scored 3 times. Her sophomore cousin Trinity Wade scored twice. Beyers added a free throw for the 11-7 run, and a 21-16 margin.
The Rams still had momentum in the 3rd and they capitalized with a 17-8 run. Mia Wade scored three times. Holly Metzger sank a deuce and a trey and Trinity Wade made two twos. Abigail Kaiser also scored.
John had three of the four Casey buckets and Richardson the other. The Warriors fell back by 4 points, 33-29.
The game down to the 4th period. Shelby’s 7-4 run won the day. Trinity Wade buried a 3 and Mia Wade and Metzger made solo twos. John and Richardson only managed solo baskets and lost by 7.
John led all scorers with 17 points and Richardson followed with 12. Shelby had 2, almost 3, in double figures. Mia Wade led with 15 points on 7 buckets, mostly in the 2nd and 3rd quarter runs. Trinity Wade had 11 with 5 baskets, including a 3. Metzger had 9 on three twos and a trey.

At the Carlinville tourney, Shelby ran into Camp Point Central in the first game. They played them almost even in the first half, but then faded.Camp Point opened with an 11-6 run. They had four players score. H Marlow scored twice and the other Ke Marlow scored twice. Wagner and Dearwaster had solo 3s. Trinity Wade had all 6 Ram points with a trey, a deuce, and 1-of-2 free throws.
Shelby fought back in the 2nd to almost pull even in a 10-6 run. Mia Wade scored three times, Sophie Ogden and Trinity Wade had solo twos. Fessler scored all of Camp Point’s points in the 2nd on 3 baskets. They held a slim lead at the half, 17-16.
After the break, Camp Point was one possession better, 12-9. Dearwaster, Wagner, H Marlow, Fessler, and the Ke Marlow has solo twos, each. Wagner added two free throws.
Metzger cashed in a trey and a deuce. Beyers had a two and Mia Wade a deuce. Camp Point was up by 7, 32-25.
In crunch time, Camp Point exploded on a 17-9 run. Camp Point made 11-of-13 free throws (84%). Shelbyville made 5-of-11 (45%). Fessler had a two and made 4-of-6 foul shots. Ke Marlow made 6-of-6 foul shots. Ka Marlow converted a 3-point play and Ippensen a deuce.
Shelby got a deuce and Mia Wade made 3-of-4 foul shots. Kaiser made a two, but that was it and the Rams lost by 14.
Shelby was just 40% from the line, missing 9-of-15 free throws. Camp Point shot 72% at the line (13/18). Camp Point had 17 field goals and Shelby just 13.
Trinity Wade and Mia Wade led Shelby with 12 and 11 points. Fessler and Ke Marlow led Camp Point with 14 and 12 points.

Shelby was 2-1, when they faced unknown Brussels. The Rams charged right through the Raiders in the 1st period, 17-6. Trinity Wade scored three times. Metzger made a trey and a deuce. Beyers scored twice and Kaiser scored.
Brussels got two buckets from Friedel and one from Vogel and trailed by 11.
In the 2nd, Shelby kept up the pressure with a 12-5 run. Kelsey Litton came off the bench to score three times. Beyers scored twice and Kaiser once to give Shelby a 16-point lead, 29-11.
After the half, Shelby posted their biggest quarter of the season on a 23-5 run. Trinity Wade scored four times. Mia Wade and Kaiser scored twice, each. Metzger converted a 3-point play and Beyers scored. Sadie Gardner scored.
E Clark scored twice for Brussels and T Clark made a free throw, trailing by 36 points, 52-16. Shelby didn’t even have to score in the 4th period to get the win.
Brussels only managed 3 points from Vogel, a bucket and 1-of-2 foul shooting.
Seven rams scored in the game led by Trinity Wade with 14 points, all deuces. Beyers followed with 10 points on 5 buckets. Metzger (1-3) and Kaiser had 8 points, each.
Shelby finished their first 4 games with a 3-1 record.
