The Shelbyville Rams were challenged by the Indians on Tuesday night, but Shelbyville peaked Pawnee, 25-23, 25-20.

“We had trouble putting the ball to the floor,” said.”We had some great passing, setting and hitting, but just couldn’t get that kill as often as we would of liked. Pawnee is a very scrappy team that really hustles to every ball.”

The Rams hit 24 kills, 5 aces, and 5 blocks for 34 attack points out of 50 total points (68%). They were led at the net by Kyleigh Marty with 9 kills (37.5%). Mallory Holland came through with 5 kills (55.6%).

“Mal Holland came alive tonight and was 2nd in leading with kills,” Coach Watson said. “I was very happy and proud of the way she got more involved in the front row.”

Shelby had five aces and Marty led with four of them. She also had 2 blocks to give her 16 attack points. Madi Cisna led net defense with 3 blocks to go with her 4 assists for 7 attack points.

“We started off strong and then when we couldn’t our hits to fall,” Watson said. “We started playing scared and conservative. We lost communication with one another which really hurt.”

Chloe Watson did her thing, dishing out 22 of the 24 assists towards 24 kills (100%). She handled the ball 50 times with no errors. The defense scooped 34 digs, but also had 17 errors.

Mia Wade and Kya McConnell led with 9 digs each. Lexie Rohdemann got down for 7 digs. Wade and Rohdemann took 10 serve receives, with only one error, each. McConnell had 7 receives with no errors.

“Finally, we pulled out the first set and I was hoping for a better second set, but it really mimicked the first set. It was just not one of our bettermatches.”

Shelbyville varsity (14-7, 4-0 CIC) and JV (9-2, 4-0 CIC) host Clinton on Thursday, along with the Ram fresh-soph (10-2, 4-0 CIC).

The Ram JV started strong against Pawnee winning set 1 by 14 points. They coasted to the 2-set win with a 3-point win in set 2.

Andi Hall led the JV with 15 service points, both Ram aces, 3 kills, and a team-high 6 digs. Kya McConnell had a double-double with 12 points and 11 of the 16 assists. Mallory Holland had 4 kills and a block. Hall and Holland had 5 attack points, each. McKenna Durbin joined Holland with a team-high 4 kills.
