Okaw Valley girls basketball (2-7) came off a tough Pana Tourney last weekend to face St. Anthony invading Bethany. The T’Wolves were bested by the Bulldogs, 46-40.
The Timberwolves had trouble scoring in double digits the first 3 quarters and were in a hole. The Wolves wilded in the 4th, but the Dawgs did enough to stay on top.
Kate Jeffers scored a game-high 21 points for the T’Wolves, Followed by St. Anthony’s Riley Guy with 20. Guy outscored Jeffers in the 1st, 7 to 4, and in the 2nd, 6 to 4, 13 to 8 in the 1st half.
Guy didn’t score in the 3rd and Jeffers put up 5. Jeffers scored 8 in the the 4th and Guy 7. Jeffers had 13 in the 2nd half and Guy just 7. They finished almost even, but the rest of the Bulldogs provided the margin of victory.
Jeffers had a deuce and 2-of-4 free throws in the 1st, while Delaney Johnson and Bailey Bennett added solo twos. Guy sank a deuce and a trey and two foul shots. Fearday made a 2 and Hakman 1-of-2 foul shots, 10-8 St A.
In the 2nd Jeffers scored twice and only Bailey Bennett scored a deuce. St. A made it an 11-6 run with two scores from Willenborg and three from Guy. Hakman added 1-of-4 free throws. St. Anthony was up by 7 points at the half, 21-14.
Okaw wasn’t pout of it, but they needed to do some work in the 3rd and didn’t. St. Anthony held serve, 10-8.
Jeffers scored a deuce and then went to the line three times. She made 3-of-6. Avery Bruns scored and Shyanne Harding split 1-of-2 foul shots. St A got solo twos from Hakman, Rios, Beesley, and Faber, and two free throws from Fearday to lead by 9 going to the 4th, 31-22.
Okaw got the scoring they needed in the 4th, but couldn’t stop the Dawgs. Jeffers scored 4 times from the floor. Bruns scored 3 times and Mia Harris scored twice for 18 points, almost doubling their out-put from the first 3 quarters.
However, the Bulldogs scored 15 points. Guy scored twice and made 3-of-4 foul shots. Fearday scored and made 3-of-4 foul shots. Hakman made 1-of-4 free throws and Rios had a deuce. St. A shot 12 free throws in the final phase and made 7, enough for the 6-point win.
St. Anthony shot 13-of-22 at the line (59%). Okaw shot 6-of-15 (46%), a 7-point margin in a 6-point win.
Okaw Valley fell to 2-7 and plays at Arcola on Thursday.
