Okaw Valley girls basketball suffered through the first three games of their own tournament, losing big to Mt. Zion, then fading in a competitive game against Deland-Weldon. They were then stunned again in a rematch against Shelbyville. The T’Wolves had one chance at redemption in the 7th place consolation game and they took advantage of it, beating South Piatt, 61-51.

The T’Wolves used a 19-6 run in the 2nd to help build a 19-point lead heading into the final frame. South Piatt made a furious run, but had too far to go, and Okaw still won by double-digits.

Okaw got offensive early taking a 4-point lead in a competitive 1st period, 16-12. Then came the big Okaw run, as the Pack attack put them up by 17 at the break, 35-18. South Piatt rejoined the fray in the 3rd in a high-scoring, hotly contested period won by the T’Wolves 17-15. South Piatt had no quit in them and they out-scored Okaw down the stretch 18-9. The Lady Bulldogs fought to the end, but still lost by 10.

Sarah Burch led Okaw launching sortie after sortie from the arc and recording six direct hits. Burch had a game-high 24 points. It was her second game-high score in two games. She had 19 on Wednesday against Shelbyville. She finished the tourney with 43 points in the last two games (22.5 ppg).

Okaw gets back to regular season action on Monday, January 3 at Shiloh, then returning home on Thursday to host Heritage.
