Trinity LSA State Champs

Last fall’s LSA State Champs started the spring season winning again, sweeping Sacred Heart.

The reigning LSA State Champion Stewardson Trinity volleyball program from last fall started their spring campaign, winning again. The Cardinals swept Sacred Heart on Thursday. Trinity 7th won, 25-6, 25-10, while the 8th grade won, 25-5, 25-10.

Trinity serving was brutal to sacred Heart. In the 7th grade game, Trinity served 29 aces out of 50 points (58%). In the 8th grade game, Trinity served 24 aces out of 50 points (48%).

Trinity 7th added 11 kills to give the Cardinals 40 attack points out of 50 (90%). Trinity 8th swung for 20 kills to go with their 24 aces, giving them 44 attack points out of 50 (88%).

Brinlie Durbinwas the top ace for the 7th grade serving 8 aces, followed by Madison Beitz with 7. Brenna Musson and Carrah Daniels had five aces, each. Musson and Alaira Friese were the net threats. Musson hit 4 kills and Friese 3.

Durbin and Mya Friese dished 5 and 4 assists, respectively, of the 11 assist total.

Thursday 7th

Trinity stats: Brinlie Durbin 9 points, 8 aces, 1 kill, 5 assists; Brenna Musson 3 points, 3 aces, 4 kills; Madison Beitz 7 points, 7 aces, 1 assist; Mya Friese 8 points, 5 aces, 1 kill, 4 assists; Carrah Daniels 10 points, 5 aces, 1 assist; Alaira friese 3 kills; Mollie Slifer 1 kill; Colby McCormick 1 kill; Kierra Mueller 1 point, 1 ace.

In November the Trinity 8th grade won the LSA State Championship. They have now started their spring campaign to hopefully go deep into the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) postseason.

Against Sacred Heart, the three Trinity all-starters from last fall led once again at the net. Ella Kinkelaar got off to a quick start with a team-high 6 kills in the balanced attack. Gabby Vonderheide scored 5 kills and Halle Moomaw hit 4 kills.

Kinkelaar also led the team with 7 aces for 13 attack points. Vonderheide served a team-high 13 points and sizzled 5 aces to go with her 5 kills for 10 attack points. Moomaw had 3 aces to go with her 4 kills for 7 attack points.

Alaira Friese stepped up to served 5 aces and add a kill for 6 attack points. Addie Wernsing hit 3 kills and served 2 aces for 5 attack points. Kinkelaar and Friese combined for 12 of the 16 assists, dishing 6 each.
